Teenagers arrested over child porn for "sexting"

how can they be charged for receiving the image - could they make the whole thing a big farce by e-mailing the very same pics to the police, judge, district attorney etc.. then request they are all charged for possessing them too???

It's not the most absurd law ever, it seems to me that the main purpose of it is to stop distribution of sexual photos of minors. If saying "they took the photo" was a good excuse, then I'd expect that if there were men who got off to photos of 14-15 year olds, that they would encourage them to take the photos, and effectively dodge the law.

That said, I think some discretion should be used, if it's class mates or similar age groups then it's not inherently wrong IMO, although stopping it probabaly is beneficial, I don't see what harsh punishments will achieve.

So if I'd taken photos of my bits when I was under 18, I'd have been breaking the law? And if I'd ever sent any to one of my lady-friends, or visa versa?

So long as both parties adhere to partners_age >= ( your_age / 2 ) + 7, I think any of this should be perfectly legal, passing the photos on to anyone who wasn't supposed to see them would be (and probably is) a separate offence.

Giving photos to under 18's is a seperate offence as far as I'm aware, though a bizarre one since the age of consent is 16.

Also, let's not forget that you can legally get married at 16, yet if you use that camcorder that Uncle Dave got you as a wedding present to video your "honeymoon antics" you can get arrested for producing childporn.

It's only a matter of time till the UK age of consent is raised to 18, for no other reason than to appease US law. I know 18 isn't the age of consent in all of America, but it's heading that way and they will one way or another try to impose it on as much of the world as they can.

In a lot of states in America they are actually more liberal with their sex laws than the UK, "extreme" porn is legal, there is no obscene publications act, bestiality is legal etc... Compared to other western countries the UK is pretty backwards.

WTH are you on about?

Age of consent will not be changed to 'fit in' with US? Don't be so daft. Of all the US influences, the age at which kids have sex isn't one.

In the UK at least, you are classed as a child if you are under 18, so while the age of consent is 16, making video's/taking pictures of a sexual nature while under 18 still counts as child pornography, seeing as the person is still legally classed as a child.
Although one would have thought that the age's should be the same for both?

But they are all under 18? If some 30 year old bloke had the pictures i would be worried, but some 16 year olds with them is just weird to be prosecuted.

I remember when a video of two drunk girls eating each other was filmed so they could get into a party and it spread like mad, our head of year had to tell us not to look even if we really wanted to, while saying that i think he somehow managed to say he would like to look, got a few laughs. The video was pish, much better stuff on pornhub.

So a law created to keep children safe...is going to send them to prison or put them on a register? kk, i officially dont understand America.
