Looks like im gonna end up going for a boring Accord GT as my next daily driver, instead of spending money on extra's I have decided to take that 1k or so and spend it on a track day project.

The thing is, I want something moddable, but also something with readily available parts, new or S/H, whats worth looking at the mo, I was thinking along the lines of a 200SX S14 or even a very early MX5. Any one got any thoughts?

Im in a similar situation... the money for a track car is set aside..

Im waiting on my new car till i get a towbar fitted for the track car trailer :)

Currently we have chosen the MR2 (mk1 mainly) as the ideal choice.

You can get MX5's pretty cheap these days as well... but i was considering just going to the local auction and seeing what comes up for the cash. RWD and easy to work on are about all it needs... and a MOT if possible,

I went for an e36 318iS. Huge fun and very rewarding on the track. You can get a good one for a grand and they cost peanuts to maintain and fix. Cheap to modify too.

Yeah ive just been thinking about the E36, arent they a bit heavy tho? what sort of power can you cheaply extract out of them?

They're not too bad. I think the 318iS is 1250kg stock. I take everything rear of the b pillar (carpets, seats, spare tyre, sound deadening) out for track days.

Depends on which engine as to what power you can get out of them.

I'd try and find a 328i Sport with LSD.

If I was to build a track day car, the last thing id want to start with is a 4 door saloon... or even a 2 door saloon...

Something much smaller and lighter would be my bet, like an MX5 or MR2 as suggested.

So no Evos or Scoobys or GT-Rs or RX7, or RX8?

Mk1 MR2, speaking from experience :D

Good choice :D A nice rev happy engine should keep him happy. Depend on whether he just wants straight line speed or to hoon around corners at silly speeds.

Spotted a mk1 on koni's for £700.
