Who has SKY HD+?

Brilliant. I will be ordering tomorrow hopefully! Our sky is currently 37.50 quid a month for having the sly+ downstairs..
I can get skyhd added as multiroom for the following;
Monthly Costs
Current Monthly Cost 37.50
Monthly TV Cost 37.50
Multiroom Subscription 9.75
HD Pack 9.75
Total Monthly Costs 57.00

One-Off Costs
Sky+HD box 49.00
Standard Set Up FREE
Total One-off Costs 49.00

This is to add SKY HD to my room setup (have a hd tv will probs end up upgrading it this year to 46inch or similar).

Now im tempted to add movies :D

My total cost is about £36 and that is:
Sky Talk
Sky Broadband
Sky+

So total monthly costs if I get what I want will be about £45, that I can live with, but I don't want Multi stuff or install charges...

I just don't have movies. I mean if I really like a film I buy it anyway and blu-ray is better than broadcast HD. If i want to see it before its out on DVD/blu-ray can alwasy use SBO.

As well as sport, BBC HD is good, just wish Dr Who was in HD. Luckily for me the wife loves tennis and she appreciates the HD picture during Wimbledon week.

I am looking forward to NFL, football and tennis in HD, things like lost etc are a bonus as i currently want them in HD anyway ;)

yeah I forgot to mention Lost, 24 etc I was one of teh few people pleased when Sky took Lost off C4 (before the launch of C4 HD).

I can't bear watching SD Football now. FA Cup on ITV is awful.

Jesus, registered next week got a text today
'We expect to be able to take your order in the next 2 to 4 weeks :O' There was me looking forward to getting it soonish, might be the end of march before it even gets installed!

Do these HD boxes improve the SD quality too?

They're meant to, but it also depends who manufactures the HD box. Samsung ones are reported to offer the best SD picture, however, most installers are now using amstrad boxes (since sky bought the company).

Between my sky+ box and HD (amstrad), I'd say it is a better picture on the HD than the +, but this could also be due to it being a HDMI connection and not a scart one. If the HD box is connected via scart, again I'd say there's a slight improvement, but it's not as noticeable :)

HDMI on these boxes surely gives the best quality?

Did people get an HDMI cable with the package etc?

Pace boxes are supposed to be the best PQ on SD by a good way, with the samsungs supposed to be good too. Although samsungs are a lot more picky when it comes to choosing a drive for the 1TB upgrade.

Beware if you get a thomson box that has component outputs. These could be 2yrs old and refurbs, plus thomson PSU capacitors normally fail after 2-3yrs. If sky give you a thomson box then reject it, it is an old refurb that will most likely die. Plus they do have the most problems out of the other boxes.

Depending on your TV, the HD box may not look any different than the + box on SD. If you have a good TV that has a good scaler in it, then it will probably produce a better picture than the HD box upscaling.

Most people on AVForums in the PX80 thread for example tend to agree on this.

Ive had Sky HD since the first day it came out and when it was first fitted I thought the SD picture looked worse than my trusty old Pace Sky+ box.

Towards the end of last year my original Thomson box box packed in after two and a half years and while I waited for an engineer to come and fix it I plugged my Old Pace Sky+ box in and was amazed at how poor the picture quality was compared to the SkyHD box even on SD content.

I guess I was lucky with my original SkyHD box as it lasted quite well and ive now got the newer Thomson HD box and touch wood its not had any problems since install before Christmas.

BTW I always leave my box on 1080i as after much messing around I find this gives the best picture and its connected to a Pioneer 436xde Plasma.

Anyone who's thinking about getting it, now would be a good time. I work in the upgrades team and we're registering people like crazy. I did get one customer yesterday who got invited to order within 24 hours and I was able to book installation on monday. It will depend on the demand placed on the installers in your area. There's still plenty of boxes. But get on the list quick because I did about 60 registrations myself in two days and I'm just one of about 250 people doing that.

So how long are they running this for?
