Hiya people,

After getting most her money back on a lemon of a 206 my girlfriend is looking for a car again. She is looking for a hatchback that is smaller than a Focus but not too small, has Air Con and is relatively new (2000 onwards?) and reliable. Looking for somthing around a 1.4 engine as it will need to do the odd long'ish motorway trip. I have come up with the following suggestions but wondered if you could offer any more or any advice on these?

Skoda Fabia
Honda Jazz
Ford Fiesta

I would rather she got a nice Focus or a Seat Leon, hell there are even Audi A3s in her budget but it was hard enough trying to persuade her to get somthing that's not french!

Why won't she have a Focus? It's only about 6 inches longer than those cars :p

Out of those I'd go for a Fiesta, although the Honda fanboy in me would be tempted by the Jazz, especially as it's uber practical and more 'big car like' than many of it's size

I don't know why she wont have a Focus, she drove one for nearly 2 years on and off as her parents had one! It makes no sence, but then that is common with females and car choices. She likes Vauxhall corsas and the new shape beetle aswell, are new'ish Vauxhalls actually any good? (from an average joe point of view, not an enthusiasts).

use the argument that the Mk1 focus is just about exactly the same size as the new fiesta, it really isnt a big hard to drive car.

All three of those cars are perfectly decent vehicles. Let her pick whichever one she likes best.

The Corsas are a bit rubbish, but the Astras are decent. You probably wouldn't get a new shape Astra within your budget, but you'd definitely find a late model Mk4. Mine was a shade under £2,000 and it's an '02, so you'd probably get a decent '03 or '04 for £3,000.
