What would a dog do!?

My dog has been raised with cats, so if he sees one out and about, all he wants to do is sniff its backside (much to the cats horror usually)

I swear he thinks cats are just different looking dogs!

Two jack Russell’s escaped from a neighbour’s house by managing to dig under the fence into our back garden. My dad caught my dog with them both in its mouth shaking it viciously like a toy and my dog is such a friendly Irish terrier.

So if it caught a cat, which my dog has done..... the cat would defend itself and would claw the dog. The dog would most likely back off and retreat.

In answer to the OP, here's one after my 3 year old Sealyham x Jack Russell bitch found it near one of the pheasant pens...

If the cat runs.... it's probably going to lose - as the dog will run up behind it and get its jaws on the cat... hence exploded cat!

If the cat stands and fights... (like mine do) they usually win - they're too fast and maneouverable for most dogs to take on. As garylouden will explain ;)

Are jack russells actually tough? Do they go for bigger targets or just ones a similar size?

They are totally fearless and have strong jaws. Good examples are strong for their size compared to other dogs. Mine have killed a fox, which as a wild animal and bigger than them is no easy target.
