I was listening to this on the Radio today and don't really understand it.
They are contractors. This means they receive a disproportionately higher rate of pay than salaried employees doing the same job, but they are not permanant and the work carries risk - they can end a contract and not have another. The risk is no permanent work, the reward is higher pay.
The company, which has a duty to its shareholders to maximise shareholder value, has chosen a company to perform work which met its tendering criteria. This is a foreign company. Big deal. We live in a globalised economy, this happens.
So what do the contractors over here do? Bitch, whinge, moan and.. go on strike. Strke for what? If they don't like the uncertainty of contracting why are they doing it?
I dont think they have a leg to stand on. Why should we give contracts to people purely because they happen to be from the same country as the company awarding the tender
