January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

Don't get the hate for Diaby here, he's alright and can play all over the midfield,
but Denilson on the other hand is the biggest pile of **** to ever wear the shirt and eboue has just lost all confidence and needs to leave.

He can only play wing, he's horrible in the central midfield role as he's incredibly dangerous in the tackle Hell he ruined Sneider's season for Real in the preseason tourney game with his first of many awful tackles this year. Lucky not to have had a half dozen red's. He's not mean, just terrible at tackling and shouldn't be allowed to.

He also only runs with the ball and isn't at all a good passer, which is why he worked well on the wing, where 1 on 1 he tended to keep the ball well. But in central midfield, closed down by 2-3 players he loses it because he holds the ball rather than passes. He was good for half of his first real appearance this year in the Champs league game as a withdrawn striker with no defensive duties at all, but in a game against a god awful team and hasn't had a single good game since then.

I think if allowed to play on the wing he could get good, but he's not being allowed to play that role, and he's simply not good enough at the moment to be first team, let alone in the most important part of the pitch where he's hopeless.

EDIT:- I will also laugh my head off if Spurs bring in Keane or someone like it, and end up playing Pav and Keane as first team and Defoe barely getting a start till he decides its time to leave to get first team football.

Eh hes crap on the wing, the best i've seen him play is as a support striker. As you say his tackling is awful, to be honest he doesnt really fit in at Arsenal.

He hasn't got the discipline to play in the midfield, can't tackle and not to mention he has zero tactical awareness. His vision is also seriously lacking as is his passing. Time and time again he skips past 3 players with ease then messes up an easy pass straight afterwards. As you say, his best position so far it seems is as a supporting striker, or in the hole, but we don't play with a formation that allows that very often, nor is Diaby good enough for us to change to one that does full time.

I don't see where he's ever going to fit in tbh. He has talent, no doubt, but constantly cancels out the good stuff he does with complete No Swearing!.

He's best as far from defence as possible hence the withdrawn striker role but in general with Bendtner, RVP, possibly Arshavin, and in the future Ramsey, Wilshire(Wenger has said he see's making Wilshire a Bergkamp in the future, the freaking moron, we need natural wingers, we finally get a class looking prospect and he wants to make him central, like every other player we own) and so on all who prefer that support striker role Diaby really doesn't have a chance.

I think what angers me most is, Diaby himself was on the recieving end of such a horrible tackle that was late, into ankle, too high and studs in and so he should be more aware than most how truly badly that kind of tackle can be. yet he does the same thing every single game without fail. I just can't understand the thinking, its simply better to not tackle at all, than give away freekicks constantly while trying.

One of the problems is Wenger seems to keep wanting to change how players play, bringing in people and changing their positions. Yes it worked with Henry, but now he is far to happy to push strikers onto the wings, Vela, Eduardo, Bendtner of late, when they are not particularly good there, or more to the point, much better in their real position. The problem is, every practice session Denilson has where he's trying to becoming a defensive midfielder, he loses something from his offensive game. 2 years ago he was showing almost as much creativity, forwards drive, passing awareness and passing ability as Fabregas and looked a worthy backup.
He's been forced into this DM position but while practicing defending, tackling and simply play, he's lost the other parts of his game completely.

Walcott's biggest threat at Southampton was getting inbehind the defence with his speed, yet at Arsenal we play him on the wing, he's not very good at getting past people despite his speed.

Buy a damn DM and play him as a DM, buy a winger and play him as a winger, buy a striker and play him as a striker. Versatility can be helpful for a few squad players, but not all your players.

Eh hes crap on the wing, the best i've seen him play is as a support striker. As you say his tackling is awful, to be honest he doesnt really fit in at Arsenal.

Seriously, the first game this year he played the support striker, was against Fenerbache, he was good in the first half, did nothing in the second, only goal this year, or maybe 1 of 2 in that game. he's played that role only a few times since then, and I don't remember having played him that far up the pitch ever before in his Arsenal career. before this year he'd started more games on the left wing than centrally in games which he'd been effective.

Think about it like this, what are his strengths. Quite pacey, can run pretty well with the ball and keeps it well under pressure , likes to get forward and has a good shot on him. Weakness's, can't tackle, not a fantastic passer, awful defensively in every way tackling, positioning, thinking, tracking back, marking and he's not really got the eye to pick out a throughball.

Those quality's equal a winger, its that simple. He's got no qualitys to be a decent central midfielder defence or offence. Hell he was mostly only good as the support striker for his shooting than his interplay, while pace and running with the ball is basically what you want in a winger. He doesn't "look" like a normal winger, that doesn't really mean anything though, Lennon looks like a winger yet is turd :p He has the build of a Vieira but thats not remotely how he plays football. He showed the potential to be a good winger, but hasn't shown that for a while and hasn't improved a lick since he arrived to be honest.

Some weird stuff on SS

N'zogbia and Taylor swapping clubs?
Faubert off Real Madrid?
Dos Santos off to Portsmouth for 7m?? Thought they had no money

N'Zogbia to Wigan. :D

He's an idiot, he's burnt his bridges with Newcastle, found out that Lyon and Arsenal etc etc don't want him, quelle surprise! And now he's forced to join a rubbish club with no real aspirations in a rubbish city (or town or whatever it is :p).

I'd swap Taylor for N'Zogbia for nowt, getting money as well? Hah!

Faubert off Real Madrid, great, be nice to see the back of him as he cannot even cross his legs let alone a football!! :)

Kovac is a good signing though. Very strong, can play defence or midfield and captain of the Czechs too.

Faubert's only real problem has been injury, he's played fairly well the times i've seen him, some great games, too many fairly quiet. Pretty good as cover for both right wing and right back but really Behrami has been so good, reliable and versatile that you have cover should you need it. But also, West Ham were playing the Cole up front hold up play since he joined, which isn't great for wingers to look good with. ALl the wingers at the club look better in the last 10-15 games since its been a real 4-4-2 with Cole not holding up but running at goal and a striker with him also. Playing 4-5-1 defensively isn't really conducive to getting the best out of your wingers so can't judge him to easily. But saves you cash.

AS for Pompie and money, people/media simple assumed because both West Ham and Pompie owners lost a lot of money in the markets, that the clubs were now broke and they'd be forced to sell everyone. Both clubs are buying as per usual, people panic, here their owner lost millions and assume everythings dead which is moronic. Its a business, like any other business, you spend to stay in business and make more money, both clubs are running well it seems without real issues. Club finances and personal finances of owners aren't one and the same thing.

How much was Kovac? It improves the quality of the squad but, I'm assuming he's mostly defensive midfield or central defence. At the moment he's more cover than first team with Collins playing out of his damn skin, Upson has been quality and Parker. He's a replacement for Mullins it seems, but I guess gives you the option of playing Parker and kovac and allow Parker a little more forward freedom in tougher games. Thing is, will Kovac be happy if he can't get in the team, though I guess rotation will certainly help avoid injuries aswell. Where the heck is Gabbidon, is he still alive?

AS for N'Zogbia, i guess he just wants to be in a fixed position playing most games which he doesn't seem to be in the last couple years. It can also imagine that Kinear is a incredibly irritating "old school" manager who just shouts and swears constantly so I can understand not really getting on with him and wanting to get out. Arsenal should have snapped him up, he wouldn't be first team, but quality cover, not particularly expensive, and versatile, more importantly, far far higher quality than our existing cover.

Wilshire(Wenger has said he see's making Wilshire a Bergkamp in the future, the freaking moron, we need natural wingers, we finally get a class looking prospect and he wants to make him central, like every other player we own)

You honestly think Wilshere should play on the wings . He hasn't really got the pace and is so much better suited to a central position.
