Tune in next week when Yanterson asks something completely different. I take it you guys wasting your time offering sensible advice don't read GD.
Fair play. I don't read GD a huge amount. I'm sure others will see my links and maybe be inspired to start a project though, that's my aim.

Dont get a mini. You dont have a clue about this one, yet you want to spend £2k restoring it. You could buy a better one that is in a good condition for less than that and you wont need to do as much work if any. They are also very unreliable from my experience, and they are slow...really slow if it is a standard 998

Spoke to my dad, he said he can weld, and would be willing to help. Jonny can I add you on MSN?

My dad said he'll go over when he can and see what condition it is in. I was wrong about it having a 998cc in it as well. It has the original 1275cc in it, but it was detuned for my nan, but the parts for tuning it up are still in the barn.

so it is a standard 1275 at the minute with a fibreglass flip front on by the sounds of it. Then you are going to put the parts for tuning back on it? Depending one what you do with the parts you could be looking at £2500 a year insurance on a mini :p

I'll be looking at near enough that with most other cars anyway.

It might be a 1295, my dad isn't sure.

it would be a 1293 not a 1295, and a modded mini is gonna be a lot more to insure than a normal mini, and in fact any other small car.

Yeah could be 1293, 12 something.

Well I got a quote for the modded mini of £1600, whilst for a '94 106 I get quotes upwards of £1900

Which insurer was the £1600 with? How can you get a quote for a car which you don't know the details of yet? Until a minute ago you didnt even know the fibreglass front was a mod?

Doubt it, not in my experience. Classic modified cars have specialist insurers, usually cheaper than normal cars even when you're young.

Depends whether your definition of modded is what mine is though. What do you mean by modded?

Well I put into the quote form that it had fibre glass panels, uprated brakes and suspension, rally lights, roll cage, and seats taken out. Which is basically what it has. I didn't put any engine mods on it since I don't know what it's got. But if it proves to be too expensive with engine mods, I can always leave them off until I am older.

I got a "ballpark" quote if you like. It may not be totally accurate. I know that it is between 1964-1979, I know it's a Cooper, I know it's got a 1275-93cc engine, and I know what most of the "mods" are.

I can't remember who it was with, I didn't pursue it further since it was only a rough guide since I don't know all the exact details yet. It was on compare the market.

Where are you getting the quotes from by the way? just interested as 1900 for a 106 seems a hell of a lot.

compare the market. I put my age as one year older than I am though, so 18, and put it as I'd just passed the test 6 months prior. Since that is probably around the time I will be insuring whatever I get.
