Doom 3 any good or 2 old ?

No, wasn't that good when it came out really. Very repetitive both in gameplay and level design. If you're looking for an old school shooter in a newer engine then go for it but there are far better options.

I found it too scary to play properly, couldn't stop dieing because of the bloody zombies :(. I'd love to play it again but I don't know where my copy is. GFX are fine though.

The GFX was nice to begin with but got extremely repetitive after the frust few levels. Picks up a bit when we get to hell but then STUPIDLY sends you back to mars afterwards WHY WHY WHY??!?!?!

About 1/3 too long

I went straight for Quake 4 ...much better alrounder but Doom 3 still has the best lighting effects seen in any game ...only found Left for Dead to top it in pitch black.

2004 was the best gaming year for me ...Doom3, Half 2 & Farcry. I just got into PC gaming and was amazed by HL2. Then 2005 we had Fear, Quake 4,

Doom3 got a bit tedious after a while, but I really enjoyed the intro and the first few levels. Give Deadspace a go instead if you haven't played it yet.

thought it was good played through it numerous times.theres also a very good mod which turns it into doom 1 with heavy metal :D awesome.

still doesnt beat unreal in the corridor and the lights go out one by one. that is still the best type of scary thing ever in pc gaming.

I personally thought Doom 3 was extremely boring. It was a good take on a remake of the very first Doom, and the graphics at the time were outstanding though stupidily unoptimised for lower end hardware when games like Half Life 2 was very scalable and still being able to look good.

My biggest complaint was that the gameplay was too old and dated at the time. And as people said before, it just got really tedious after a while since it was pretty much the same thing all over again. You can pretty much tell when the creatures will pop out since it was just cheap pop-out scare design.

Just to balance this out, I played through again recently and enjoyed it quite a bit. I don't think it looks bad now and has the advantage of running really well. As for gameplay; it's Doom. Either you like it or you don't.

pros : lighting, even though some encounters are predictable - still made me jump in places, graphics and sound; some of the mods are good.

cons : repetitive - though environments do change nicely, at times a little clunky combat, sadly a greater technical achievment than an achievment with regard to varied game play.

For me the use of the pda was a good idea, just very few puzzles to solve where as with halflife there was more to think about than just shooting enemies. Its as if they wanted to recreate the original but mixed arcade like gameplay with modern graphics and it just doesn't quite pull it off. The amount of enemies in the original games made sense but having loads still in Doom3 just didn't work imho. Still worth a play though, defo.

I remember this one all right... playing through the night with my x800 pro agp and headphones on so i don't wake anyone up... good game.. don't know if it would cut it now though!

It's a superb game - probably the most immersive game i've ever played. Graphics still look stunning. It's not the most diverse game but I really don't think they could have created the same level of suspense if they had gone for a more HL2-esque type of gameplay.

i remember i had a nvidia 5600 and it just would not play the game with my 2.6 athlon.. until i got my x800 pro and it all changed... 3dmark03 score 5600:-1350, x800 pro :-9500.... lol

I first played this on a Radeon 9800 Pro, then i upgraded to a 6800GT to play it. Wonder what its like maxxed out on a GTX280? May have to try it as i think ive seen the demo on steam

I really loved it when it came out, still stands up pretty well now, though definitely has to be played with the lights off and sound up (or headphones) - still a very jumpy game and to reiterate what has already been said, the lighting is fantastic.

I have it on steam, tried it maxed earlier today. Doesn't seem to be an option of 19x12 so ran 16x12 totally maxed...

With a gtX280 + Q6600 4GB and Vista 32 the FPS drops to 35 in places !!! though vith vsync it manages to hold 60 a good portion of the time.

The audio is great if you have EAX support and as above the lighting or rather lack of it in places is very well done.

Still worth a run through if you've never played it. I have the expansion packs too but currently spending far too much time on l4d
