Doom 3 any good or 2 old ?

35 . That's odd I remember playing it maxed on my pentium 4 ( openGL games loved p4's) and a geforce 6800GS...

I know, I remember the 6600GT being a leap in performance from a 9800Pro I had before. Though back in those days I wasn't using a 24" screen, the ultra textures ... req 512MB Graphics memory or 16xAA.

6600GT wasn't that different to the 9800 actually. Quite similar performance. 6800 was a big leap however.

Brilliant game. I think many people criticise the game based on expectations that it was never meant to live up to.

Doom 3 is meant to be linear and repetitive just like the old games; in fact it has pretty much the same gameplay as classic Doom, apart from the relatively small numbers of monsters coming at you (which is expected given the hardware requirements at the time).

Graphics wise it has aged very well imo and as long as you turn AA/AF way up, with max texture settings, it looks perfectly fine.

Have a look at the expansion pack as well, I thought it was better than the original.
Also iirc, there is no widescreen option in game, but you can just set it manually so don't be put off.

It was fantastic if a little repetitive, some nice expansive outdoor areas would have been nice but you cant have everything.

Graphics still scale extremely well even by todays standards.
