OcUK Photo Comp - Season Eight : Round One - "Only the camera can capture" DISCUSSION

Some very odd looks - one dude kept orbiting at a distance to try to figure out what was going on. Eventually you phase it out and get on with it.

I must admit, when ive gone out on my own with my camera im always far to contious of other people, to a point where i just pack up my tripod and go home. Its my biggest hurdle. I dont know why, i guess i just get embarrassed. :o

Sorry its a little off topic, but i bet im not alone.

You're not. I had the absolute perfect chance of shooting two "vagrants" on a park bench, complete with can of larger and black and white scrawny pooch at one of their sides. The park bench was under cover of like a bus shelter thing that would have framed the shot perfectly. They were wrapped up warm chatting to each other and had the glummest of looks on both their faces.. Just perfect

I bottled it..

Nah I find it extremely hard as well - people shots are very difficult for me. I'd say with the homeless keep some cash on you or, if you're going out with intent, take some food from Tescos or similar and give that to them. Harder to get the candid shots that way but I think it does something good for them and also appeases any feelings of guilt.

LOL a very patient fiancé - a couple of laptops and a couple of wooden spoons rammed in the drive bays :D It's a combination of around 20-25 exposures.

That's Russell Square as well isn't it? I walk through there every day to work.
I like how you have interpreted the theme... fantastic entry and will be hard to top

It is indeed - I live on Southampton Row so it's kinda my local :D I'd be keen to go for a photo walk or something similar. I struggle sometime with inspiration in London even tho there are so many things to see and do. Are you a local as well or do you train in?

Cheers for the kind words.

I am always hunting around that area down the side streets, near the "Horse Hospital" for example.
I train it in daily and work on Percy St, just off Tottenham Court Road so would be up for some street photography if you are game. Soho and around the bars that network Goode St are good for candids at lunch and later in the day.

You aren't one of the joggers i see in the evening are you Steve? :p

Changed my entry again - British Museum by day with some Tilt&Shift magic applied

Haha not recently mate, only jog during the spring/summer/early autumn. I'm not nearly brave enough to jog during winter. Maybe if we plan for late spring early summer when the days are a bit longer and people are out and about we'll see if we can organise a London walkabout. The lights been pretty average of late and it sounds like it's only going to get worse over the next few weeks.

SERIOUSLY!!!!

I'd hate to see you in my city then. I wouldn't be able to stop if i lived in a city the size of london.

I'm hoping for a theme i can get my teeth into next month. Couldn't get the shot i wanted this month

Right got my pair of **** in ;), not the best but forgot about the competition and had this kicking about. :D
