I had to send off a load of forms and proof of identity in order to have security checks done on me for a new job. Because of the sensitive information I was sending I chose Royal Mail Special Delivery.

I tried to trace the item online earlier and it said there was an error with my tracking number so I called them. They told me that they can't find the parcel on their system and I should wait until monday afternoon before I can do anything.

I have just check my receipt to find that the guaranteed delivery time is 1pm 1/2/2009, which is a sunday. Since they obviously don't deliver on sundays I am hoping that there was just a problem on their system and the parcel will turn up.

If it has gone missing then I'm screwed, pretty much everything you would want in order to steal someones identity is in there:

6 months credit card statements (to prove address).
Paper driving licence
Pay slip (to prove nino)
20 pages of in depth security forms.

The worst part is that if it has gone missing I will have to apply for a new licence and get my statements sent back out, delaying the start of this new job. I can barely afford to pay the bills at the moment so I am not sure I can face the prospect of any more delays.

Yesterday.

I have just had a look at the slip that you fill out for special delivery, the woman behind the desk hasn't pulled the barcode off it and put it on the package. Since there is no barcode on it it is no wonder they can't find it on their system.

Now I just got to hope it turns up.

Yeah just sit tight and cross your fingers, royal mail impressivly came through for me recovering a birthday present that was apparently lost in the post (ren and stimpy was a great addition to getting my discounted gtx 280)

Odd question, this is probably the best place to ask it. RMSD compensates upto £500, has anybody tried to open a claim upon them losing a parcel? How do you prove how much something is worth?

RMSD has different "levels" of compensation, you don't need to prove how much it's worth, you insure it for said amount, £500, £1000, etc and if its lost, you get your insured amount....

I think.

is it not 1000quid anymore ? sure SD used to be when i worked for em

someones going to be in big trouble for losing that one if they have. every single person who touches that letter/package has to sign it over

ill take a guess that they will find it on monday mind.

it will end up that the posty has it at homebecause no one was there to sign for it on sat morning and that the sorting/post office had shut so he couldnt take it back

I had a payout for an item damaged in transit. All i had to do was get the buyer to save the item and packaging, they collected it, i sent proof of value and got a cheque a few weeks later. Luckilky i still had a copy of the invoice so claimed back the full value.

I checked monday morning and the package had got some information saying it was out for delivery, but with the weather being how it was it obviously didn't turn up.

Now the parcel just says check back later (and has been saying that since monday lunchtime), so I can only hope it gets delivered today.
