A day out ratting

... it's still not family forum material.

Sorry man.

But I've seen much worse on wildlife programs, during the daytime, when lions tear wilderbeast to shreds.

Those pictures are definitely the sort that should be shown to kids. Just so they know what can happen if dogs get hold of small animals.

Too many people in this country havent a clue of how animals behave/interact with eachother.

I think there was even a well-received program which showed people how animals are killed. It was an eye opener for a lot of people who didnt quite understand that animals needed to be killed for us to eat their flesh.

I know that Gordon Ramsey showed his kids that turkey's are killed at XMas for their meat. To this end, he bred turkey's in his back yard and then killed them for their meat. He wants his kids to know where meat comes from.

So everyone who doesn't like pointlessly killing things is a hippy/townie?

The point yer missing is it is not pointless ... Its done for a reason .. thats what people cant understand .

I was brought up doing this and although i dont ferret/use dogs any more for anyone not brought up in town its all pretty normal .

The trouble is people like you that dont have a clue moan and cry about something that does not affect you and then it get clamped down on or banned and not one in yer miserable life did it ever affect what you did other than reading it in the news or the the net .

Maybe instead of moaning about it you should try it . At least then you could give a biased opnion .

The only reason OPs pictures are not rated is they havent gone through classification, if they were part of a film for example, they would be classified and it certainly wouldnt be a U - fun for or the family.

Actually, hunting videos and DVDs are widely available. They are never given an adult - or even a 15 - classification, and that includes big game hunting (eg wild boar and catch dogs) not just the itty bitty ratting videos.

You knew the point I was making and took it to one side of the scale. I'd say most people would want to respect their environment and hunt for just food and clothes. They grew up living with the environment they live in and know their part in it.

I dunno human history has shown time and again the majority of people enjoy violence and killing (real or fake).

Just look at what's been the most popular forms of entertainment over the ages.

gladiator fights, animal fights, hunting, tv shows about wars and violence, games about violence, wrestling and combat sports.

peaceful entertainment seems to be in the minority.

I wonder how many people on this thread who oppose ratting with dogs, are equally opposed to fishing.

Strange that I never see people marching on the streets of London for a fishing ban, and yet it's easily one of the cruellest sports imaginable.

Add 'First Person Shooter' games to that list. I believe that is most popular genre in PC gaming.

I know.. There's even people who go fishing but oppose hunting. These people are retarded..

But it is worrying that there our vocal groups out here, that do want fishing banned :(

Killing animals for enjoyment is wrong, why should something have to affect me for me to be concerned about it? Hunting is incredibly selfish, disgusting and cruel. I was very happy when it was banned.

We enjoy what we do, we don't just do it because we enjoy it. There's a big difference. Anyway, what hunting ban? :p You can still hunt every animal in the UK bar one, so the "ban" didn't affect anything, just the way it happens.

So things like glue traps should still be used? Just let them break their own legs, suffocate and rip their skin of trying to escape from them?

Dude. I've lived with rats. I hate them.

If glue traps get the job done, then yes. I have no sympathy for rats.

In cambridge when I was 14 or so I was chucked in the Cam along with my fishing gear and a friend for fishing by animal rights protestors.

They had no problem potentially drowning teenagers as long as the fish is ok.

I take your point (completely!) but please let's not turn this thread into a "animal rights people value animal's lives over those of people". It's true, but that's not what my thread is about.

Ratting is awesome and my thread needs stars. Discuss :D

The hunting ban should have been a lot better than it is, it's watered down version to try and please everyone.

Wow, it's amazing how many people can't read.

you said "I suppose my stance is if it serves a useful purpose then yes it's fine but you're doing it just for kicks then you've crossed the line. The rats aren't doing any harm so why harm them?"

you said that he was doing it for kicks but he says he is doing it to keep them away from the pheasants and their feed  what havent I read?

They probably assumed that someone who wanted to spend so much time around water could swim.
