I am looking to sell my current Focus in March because I'm going abroad next year and other than a couple of exams I won't be at uni so I can just use my parents cars over the summer and buy something else when I get back from US mid 2010.

If I sell it in March and the insurance runs out in May, if I simply leave the insurance policy running and keep the renewal letter for the year of NCB, is that acceptable?

If I tell them I've sold the car now then surely I'll lose the NCB. Suppose other option is to transfer the policy onto a banger or something?

No, this is not acceptable - you cannot insure something which you have no insurable interest in.

Yea just leave it going to get your ncb, can't see any problem with this.

I'm sure that insuring a car I don't own must break a T+C!

Quite liking the idea of buying a Merc 190E with 3 months MOT left for about £600, then simply declaring it off the road for a year and then once I get back in UK putting it through an MOT. If there's something really wrong I can just scrap it, if not, bargain!
