It's not who "Devestator" was in the first film, but more the combo guy that formed from the various constructicons in the G1 series.
Edit - ah you're right. That Hi-def downloaded really was a lot clearer. I don't know who it is then. Weird.
I have to say every other adaptation of comic books has been generally faithful to the originals, yet for some reason in Transformers it's different. I don't read them, but I'm sure there wasn't as many irked off long time fans when Spiderman, Hulk, X-Men and Iron Man were put into film. I don't mind slight uptodate changes e.g. the paintwork on Prime or subtle ones, e.g. Ratchet being a search and rescue vehicle as opposed to an ambulance, but there are far too many other weird and wholesale deviations.
It's like they got a deal for a car/van/truck to appear, and then randomly dipped into the comics for a name.
Also Bay did state they tried to keep the characters they chose for the first film closer to the comics, but they came out stupid. Sure put in as many moving parts, cogs, rivets, tubes as wanted but they seemed to have totally gone a step beyond that.
