A day out ratting

I look forward to your next post about the evils of fly-spray :)

If you were a farmer and had rat's crapping into and contaminating all your stuff, I'm sure you wouldn't feel the same.

Get a grip.

i see.

so my opinions dont match yours, so i have to "get a grip" ?

your a lot more outspoken over here, aren't you?

;)

Result!! This pup loves his rats.

Just something a little different for GD.

Aww, hes adorable!

Wonder if I could get my mutt into this sort of thing, hes a terrier of some sort. No idea what exactly, he was a stray, but looks Fox-terrier-ish ,and loves digging. :)

Reasons I do it...

1. It's good exercise for the dogs and it is primarily what they were bred for. It's also good training for them.
2. Dead rats are better than live rats. We often get local farmers calling us and asking us to bring the dogs up to their sheds when they get too many rats about. It's good effective pest control and it doesn't cost the farmer a penny.
3. It's a good day out for us. Certainly beats browsing the internet.
4. It's awesome fun!

1. A good excuse for what? maybe there where bred for that ... in a less civilised world hundreds of years ago?
2. Says who? not according to the rat, and if you dont make anythig out of it, that makes it even more senseless
3. Says a lot about a person character, how can this be a good day out?
4. Its sick

1/ Excuse? it's needed, quite simply really. But i suppose you would prefer rats roaming about with bubonic plague lingering at your door.
2/ Eh? unfortunatley the rat has no say in it!
3/ There must be a lot of sick people in this world then, the same people who earn a living and work dam hard feeding your blinkered views!

I despair, i despair that any sane person could call this fun. There is no need for it, there is certainly no sport in it, and anyone who does enjoy it,should be flung into a hole in the ground themselves, and forgotten about.

go watch Kill it, Cook it, Eat it on bbc iplayer and stop being such a girl.

farmers and land owners have enough to worry about rather than some vermin problem.

cant you count?

Since when was it un PC to kill rats?

Are you suggesting that we're not far off supplying them with jobs and housing with benefits?

:D

I think it's a totally cruel thing to do, rats or not.

You guys are posting about it to make your selfs look 'hard'. Pathetic imo.

Thank god there are soo many people on here that sit on the internet whining, god forbid if I might have to actually meet some of them ;)

Looks like great fun, and a job well done killing the rats. The puppies must have loved it :D

I for one should be lynched as I have a mouse trap that just traps the mouse inside then he starves/ becomes de-hyrated to death..... O THE HORROR :D

Death to you. You're almost as bad as the Japs/Vietnamese.

Another reason for ratting is to take revenge on the rats who tortured and killed so many of our brave servicemen during the Vietnam war. How many Green Beret's stomachs were eaten through by rats and how many had their heads mutilated by a rat in a bag. Yeah, the rat thought it was at a disco but that's no excuse.

I'm sure the japs had "fun" doing it so by your definition there was nothing wrong with it.

I see nothing wrong in ratting as rats are undoubtedly disease spreading vermin (friend of mine caught Weil's disease once which is very nasty, and is most commonly spread by rats).
However did I imagine seeing a fleeting reference early in this thread to going coursing ? Isn't this illegal now ?

If you are providing a "service" to the farmer and other users of the country side then fair enough. I think you get off on watching animals getting torn to shreds. Posting pics of torn up animals on a technology site is just odd. I'm sure you'll agree :D Everyone has their little fetish, but most will be a bit more discrete when that fetish involves violence and such.

It REALLY get's on my tets when the sandle wearing brigade fire up over something like this, you see far worse on pre-watershed nature programs! I hope next time you rush to the aid of some stinking vermin you contract leptospirosis from it.

I know rats aren't particularly nice animals but there are more humane ways to kill/control them, just the same as foxes. I think that letting dogs rip them to pieces is a bit un-necessary really, but I guess it will excite some people.

Wasn't meant to offend, lots of beer last night ;) but I can't really see where you're coming from. These aren't the clean, hygenic rats that are bred to be pets for people, they are a health hazard and I'd welcome someone eradicating them around my property if I had a problem with them.

Personally I'm not the sort that goes out and tortures animals of any description (apart from wasps or mozzies with the fly killer), but there comes a point where it's not possible to "live and let live". :)

I think peoples animal welfare views on ratting are misdirected.
