Went out for a meal on sat night for a family celebration, it was a chain restaurant all be it a small chain, i won’t name names to be fair. But my partner became a little concerned by the taste of the prawn starter and opted not to finish it. We carried on eating the meal and to be fair the meal was nice and we racked up a £250 bill between 8 of us.
In the middle of the night though my partner became quite ill she was firing out of both ends for well 24 hours, it’s stopped now and were waiting the doc to call back and the restaurant manger...

So clearly this could be down to other things, freak bug, or something else, but we quite convinced it was the dodgy starter, what would be the correct steps to take?

did anyone else have the same starter?
could be norovirus thing, which has effected loads of people in the same way

Too hard to prove if you're thinking of some kind of lawsuit. A letter of complaint suggesting your suspicion with their food might get you a reduction of your bill though.

yeah could be down to other things, she stopped eating the starter as it did not 'feel right' i had about 40% of her main meal :D as i often do, she drove so only one glass of a shared bottle of wine.

na not thinking along those lines, i called the big boss and he has left me a voicemail saying he will call back later today.

i know it would be hard to prove,

In order to prove it's food poisoning you will need to provide your GP with a "stool sample" so that they can see if it's a bug or food poisoning. It may also be worth calling your local trading standards to see if they've had previous complaints about the restaurant, i've done that before

I love this blame culture now (not saying the OP is looking for a lawsuit or freebies) but you see it so much now, oh I had a bad stomach it must be food poisoning.

I would suspect that if it was only 24hrs then it wouldn't be food poisoning.

I once called a soft drink manufacturer to complain that their product had turned my stools luminous green, they were apologetic and offered to send me vouchers for more drinks (they were not surprised) - no thanks! I didn't want anything from them I just wanted them to know what their drink was doing for their consumers!

(this was a small local company when I was living in the US not one of the big boys)

well i made that clear in my posts, just feel like it is worth looking into, i have no intrest in lawsuits or freebies, i want to moan as i'm thinking it was the food, but clealy it could be something else.

Actually was watching BBC news the other morning and the blame culture is on the decline. Less cases are being seen by blame/claim solicitors now than 10 years ago apparently.

Re. food poisoning. There are one or two food poisoning organisms that will have an incubation time of less than 7 hours which would assume the middle of the night was approx. that long after ingestion. Bacillus Cereus is one of the most common and is most often associated with cooked rice, meat or vegetables. It is possible that any salad items might have carried the bacteria or more likely some form of cross contamination.

For the record, the government strongly recommends reporting all suspected incidents of food poisoning as it helps them to track and monitor food hygiene. It doesn't mean to say there is a claim culture, it means that you don't want the next person (who could after all be a frail pensioner or a baby) to suffer the same symptoms with a far worse outcome. The less savoury part of reporting it usually means submitting a stool sample. If this is quite some time ago then it might be well out of her system and hence too late.

Its only really bad if you Triple Crown, thats when you know your very ill

( Thats when your body goes into spasm and it comes from all 3 holes and the same time, not good at all.)
Had it twice in my life and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
