Virgin media is pure awesomeness !!!

I have there 10MB Service once you download 750MB you get capped to 2MB.
With the 20MB after 1Gb of downloading you get capped to 5MB.

Atm the 50MB service never gets capped but i sure that will change when they get a load more customers.

10mb is 1200MB between 4-9.

if you reach this you get capped to 2.5mb for 5 hours.

20mb is 3GB between 4-9.

If you reach this you get capped to 5mb for 5 hours.

Most people don't seem to understand the traffic management policy.

Theres a limit from 9am until 1500 aswell dont forget, the only uncapped time during the day is 1500-1600.

From the horses mouth.

Don't know why so many moan about the throttling its better than a hard cap, imagine having a 75 gig a month cap how crap that be , god we push 700 gig a month on are 20mb virgin, its fantastic speeds all the time apart from stm.

Its not always the home hub with bt but most of the time i bet it is , bought my old netgear router/modem over and straight away at my sisters she sink at 5129 instead of 3687 on home hub the dl speeds at night aint that good, can't wait to get back on my lovely 20m.

Kinda. They will be running the 20Mb users on in DOCSIS2.0 mode on the DOCSIS3.0 network so to the user it will be a transparent move (ie no new modem).

Whether it'll speed up some of the poorly performing 20Mb connections remains to be seen.

im on their 20mbs service and looking at the modem it says im on the docsis 1.0 config. I thought 20mbs was supposed to be on the 2 anyway although my modem is compatible tith docsis1 and 2.

That is shocking.

It's also untrue.

Date Download Upload Total
2009-01 105.53 GB 3.64 GB 109.17 GB
2008-12 167.11 GB 4.76 GB 171.87 GB
2008-11 144.68 GB 4.21 GB 148.89 GB

My last 3 months usage with VM 10Mb and I have been traffic managed a grand total of 0

It is very easy to follow there STM plan on top of that I get great pings in games and no slow downs in peak times. I can't complain

20mb is supposed to be moved onto the DOCSIS2 platform after the 50mb roll-out.

"god we push 700 gig a month on are 20mb virgin"

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOWNLOAD which is putting you around 700GB's per month.... thats insane..

Its not a student house but there are normally 3-4 users and a few of them dl lots, oh my bro uses it to dl things from work too.

Awesome if you happen to live in an area without an oversubscribed ubr yes.

Otherwise you'll be lucky to get 2mb on a 20mb line 4pm-1am.

With other people downloading 700Gb a month, I'd not want to get back to your 20Mbit connection, the pings must be dire, and I imagine web-surfing must be sporadic at best..

:)

There caps are almost all the time except in the middle of the night and the fact that they cap 2MB to 1MB i think is insane. Although i do agree i ALWAYS have low pings in servers games like CSS and TF2 i have seen a ping of 2-3 :D

Agreed. I've downloaded over 2.5TB in the last 12 months without any problems at all - just schedule it for overnight.

Love to see how many other so called "unlimited" ISPs would invoke their "fair usage" clauses and tap you on the shoulder if you tried downloading that much.

First you post innacurate information about the download limits on the 20Mb service and then you claim the caps are only lifted "in the middle of the night" when in fact it's from 9pm to 10am, which is over half the day!

Perhaps you should do some reading up on the STM system before posting any more misleading "info"?

Where on your modem does it say that? I've looked at mine to double check and it doesn't tell me anywhere.

Edit: Scrub that - just found this in the status log:
17:30:16 2009 Thu Jan 29 17:30:16 2009 Information (7) We registered with a DOCSIS 1.0 config file!

personally I found NTL/virgin to be a punch of muppets (for want of much much more colourful language) and glad I've kicked them into touch.

their internet is good, but fingers crossed you never have to get in touch with them.
