As it says in the title, its pretty much the only component left i need to pic for my build. im not wanting blue ray or any of that. just a decent standard optical drive.

I want 2 (one fo reading and one for buring)
Lightscribe has caught my eye as well =D

So yeah, any recommendations please?

Pioneers are held in high regard, also Samsung are very popular. Have a look on the site, there's not too much difference in them really, look at the read and write speeds. You might as well buy 2 DVDRW drives, the price difference isn't great.

The LG 22x drive is very good. Quiet too when compared to the Samsung. Does'nt have Lightscribe though.

This Samsung is the cheapest one with lightscribe but i find it to be very noisey. Never used the lightscribe feature myself.

i will leave lightscribe and stick to good 'ol permanent pen :D

I think i will get 2 LG GH22NS40 22x DVD±RW drives then.

Thanks for the help guys :)

Thats my plan, see as its my first build im going to take pictures as i go along.
Everything should come together fine because my dad is a computer whizz but every now and then i will probably shoud "DAAAAAD whats happened!?" haha :D

but yeah, i shall take lots of pictures and put stuff up on here as i go along.

I dont want to seem stupid but IDE or SATA?

I'd go for IDE - because you lose a SATA port otherwise and the IDE ports generally lie un-used. If you got lots of SATA ports and only a couple of HDs won't make any difference (I've used all 6 SATA ports on mine for HDs)

I doubt he's going to have that many HD's. SATA is most common nowadays.

Always go for pioneer myself cheap and reliable, also work with any media you throw at them unlike some other brands. Also I use IDE in my main rig as it has so many harddisks in it, but sata in any other build, so really would say depends how many hdd you want in the rig.

I am only planning on having 2 HDDs so i will stick with SATA.

I might actually get a lighscribe and im thinking the cheapest that is a samsung.
SO i might just get the normal samsung to go with just so they look the same.
I'm not really to bothered about how loud they are because im not after a quiet pc and i generally always have music on.

Once again, thanks for all the felp guys (and possibly gals) =D
