January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

Maybe had we been the buying club then that would have been funny :p

I would laugh if Tottenham win something this year and Liverpool don't though (although not too hard as Id quite like us to take the Carling Cup :p)

In all seriousness though, although this Keane transfer has been a bit of a joke on Liverpool, it's just as much a joke on Tottenham. They've made a minuscule profit on a player yet had a dire season as a partial result of it.

I know your a betting man...

I will have a 200 gramme bar of fruit and nut with ya that he wont get 20 league goals next year ;)

He's only a midfielder! There aren't that many midfielders who score 20 a season in the Premier League, especially for £12m~

I didn't mean yourself specifically but up untill 18months ago most people had never heard of him but on the back of 1 season, a lot of people are talking about him like they've been watching for years.

Just because he has come good recently that doesn't make him a bad player.

Admittedly I haven't been watching him for years but I don't have to have been to think highly of him.

I'm not betting with you, you still owe me from the last bet!

The biggest joke has been on Parry. Im sure Keane feels like a bit of a plonker too.

We had what should have been a quality team without him and I doubt his return will spark us into any great revival.

I also fail to see how Tottenham are a joke in all of this.

They got rid of a player who was set on going for a high sum, only to get him back 6 months later for a profit.

Quaresma's got far more ability than Nani. He just has a problem showing it consistently.

Just been doing some Youtube scouting on him which obviously doesn't highlight any attitude or consistency problems he may have but he's certainly extremely talented.
He's quick, fairly strong, got bags of skill and two good feet which he can cross a great ball with from both sides of the pitch, just what we need if his head is screwed on:)

Lets hope for some of this at Chelsea :)

That's not the only time he's done that too.

Like i said, that wasn't aimed at you but more of a general point. I doubt a lot of the peole raving about him haven't seen him play more than 4-5 times.

i doubt keane feels a plonker, not his fault he's been caught up in yet another power struggle at liverpool.
Yea you're right. Im sure he feels great after pushing so hard for a move to us only to end up failing and ending up rejoining his old side 6 months later.

no i imagine he'd feel pretty enraged and mistreated. now when kewell was shipped out after saying he's chosen liverpool because they were a side on the up man united were in decline; i imagine he felt a bit of a plonker.

No it isn't, you have no idea about squad depth. Vela and Wiltshire aren't ready to play week in week out, so don't count on them. That leaves Nasri and Rosciky as "true" wingers. Walcott will eventually be a striker, Eboue is gash, Eduardo is not a winger, Bendtner is not a winger, V. Persie is not a winger.

We actually have something resembling cover for our wings now. What's been lacking in the squad latley, leaking goals or scoring goals? You know perfectly well we aren't creating enough chances and a creative mid is a priority. Yes, we need a new DM but obviously it didn't happen, however Wenger has said this window we are weak there so at least he now admits its. Shame he didn't sort it out sooner, but we've lacked creativity since Fabregas got injured and we needed someone to mix it up.

Re: Wengers settling in period, Sagna slotted in perfectly, hopefully Arshavin will after he gets to match fitness. He was at Zenit's Dubai training camp all last week so that's go to have helped.

Eduardo played more for us pre injury on the left wing than upfront, Vela played on the left wing while out on loan a LOT last year, Wenger has played him on the left wing almost every time he's played Vela. Wilshire should be getting the odd game this year rather than 3 minutes at the end of a game, whole games improve young players, 3 minutes does nothing for anyone.

Sagna slotted in perfectly, in the same season that Eduardo was barely played for 4 months despite looking the same in preseason right through to when Wenger started to play him properly, For every play that joins and starts instantly there's been 5 that haven't been started for ages. Likewise, he's just not match fit and hasn't really played in months so highly unlikely he'll be physically fit enough to play yet.

Creativity sucked in the last few games, but mostly thats due to a certain someone who kills almost every attack we make. Ade's been gash and has missed sitter after sitter. Bendtner, who can't play wing at all according to you, and according to me is by no means a natural winger who we should rely on, got down the wing great when given the chance, created chances, and gave Ade a simple tap in, which Ade screwed up. We had many promising moves at the weekend, mostly broken up by Ade. We lack creativity because midfielders need inteligent strikers running into space, without a striker moving and creating space a creative midfielder has no where to actually put a pass into.

Wenger twitters on about only spending big on certain to be better players than are currently in the squad, and when we have people back, very soon, there is no way that is a certainty with Arshavin, while he could have spent the same money on a DM that would certainly be better than what we have. Yet again Wengers turned his back on what he's been saying for years.

Also in this transfer window he's very specifically said we AREN'T lacking in midfield in terms of defence, he very specifically said that Diaby, Song and Denilson are good enough and he doesn't want to bring someone in for that position. Thats what worrys me.

Totally agree with you on Ade-Barn-door (because he couldn't hot one).. he seems to fluff so many chances, I do rate Diaby however, defensive wise and attacking wise. But it would have been nice to sign Veloso during this transfer window.
