The reason I ask is apart from having to dismantle half an engine to get at the back cover/casing of the bulb-you have to attach a thin wire clip around the bulb and on a lip that rests slightly higher than the bulb. This clip is supposed to attach round the back of the bulb on to a couple of hooks. Anyway, this method of holding the bulb in place is extremely fiddly and not very nice if you have cold fingers etc. Can anybody think of a better way to hold the bulb in place without having to use this clip? As daftas it sounds I have contemplated using gaffer tape as the bulb would be pushed and flush against the back of the bulb unit. Unfortunately the car is a Fiat stilo and anybody with any experience of these will know what I am talking about.

Do it properly. It'll only end up misaligned and filling absolutely everyone who comes in the opposite direction to you with rage.

Even I can change bulbs with the fiddley wires and I'm a girl for Christ's sake :p

Its extremely difficult to get that clip on and over without knocking the bulb out of place. In fact it is an absolute nightmare honest-that on top of having to take the battery out, shifting the fusebox over and then try to wedge the casing that protects the battery-out of the way.
Goes off to cry.

Edit: Did it properly the other day and now the new bulb I put in went ting this morning and needs to be replaced again. Two days old grrr.

If that's the same design as the S13 200SX it's hard to tell from your description (post a picture?), then a narrow cable tie to sit in the recess between the lip and the 3 prongs of the bulb works nicely and holds the bulb perfectly stable.

it could well be some retarded design, but that's no excuse. as lostkat said, you'll end up with a misaligned bulb that will just blind everybody. do it properly

I noticed I had a blown N/S headlamp bulb on my Mk2 Mondeo on the way home, alas, I can't for the life of me remove the screws that hold the headlamp in place (rusty!) - Do Halfrauds still offer to fit bulbs for you? - I think they have a job from me tomorrow!

You don't need to remove the headlight to change a bulb on a Mk2 Mondeo, despite what the manual says! ;)

If it's passenger side, remove the fuse box lid. Driver's side you don't need to remove anything else.

Then unhook the metal clip at the top of the grey plastic backing cover, pull it backwards slightly, then lift out. Change the bulb, and replace backing cover and re-attach the metal clip.

Yes it's something like 4 quid though.

Tried that mate, no joy - my hands must be too big! :o

Cheaper than ripping my knuckles to shreds.....

If it says its gonna be tricky on the diffictult fit site they wont touch it. Totally depending who you speak to.

Just spent an hour trying to do this, to no avail, so I don't fancy my chances - I'll slip the fitters @ work a Fiver I think.
