I paid for something on my card a fortnight ago now and the payment still hasn't been taken from my account, is there any limit as to how long this can take? possibly before the authorisation is void? or does it depend at which point in the process it's gone wrong?

Any answers?

Can take as long as they want. Sounds like to me they haven't "polled" there machine.

Where did you pay for it ? Was it standalone machine or integrated into the till??

Debit card or credit card ?

it was at a garage (the work on your car kind, not petrol station), by debit card, stand alone machine

I'd say most likely thing is the machine hasn't polled. Either way , if it has polled and for whatever reason your card hasn't been charged they can check through logs and trace it back to the card.

So in short don't think you have got away with it , because its highly unlikely:o

Any other questions i'll do my best to help

Might not be cleared until the end of the month type thing.

Standalone machines should be polled end of everyday. Maybe his phoneline is faulty for the machine. Or maybe he doesn't wantt he money into his account for some crazy reason

If it hasnt cleared dont worry about it, its the machines fault if it didnt work.

you didnt notice it....

Very unlikely to happen. ;)

I know some small garages wont put those entries in till the end of the month, and do it all at once (to save costs).

I also know people who take advantage of this getting petrol towards the end of the month while they wait for they pay to go in ;)

How would that save costs ?? They get charged PER transaction not how many times they poll a terminal. Unless they on very old T&C even then it wouldn't save them much

as nice as it would be i'm not really expecting to get away with it, would just like to know if there's any fixed timescale i can expect it to go out in, dont want to have to ensure the cash is in my account forever it was over £500

2 Years is the length of time a retailer has to claim the money from your account - of course this is normally done in 2-3days hence the bank earmarking the funds to try and stop overspending.

i had the same at a petrol station. I didn't notice it hadn't gone and when they finally took it four weeks later i thought my account had been hacked. My bank looked into it and it was the stations fault for not processing it.
Just make sure it doesn't make you go overdrawn when it finally leaves.

It also happened to me over Xams a few years ago. IIRC it took about 3 weeks to come out.

Ring the garage up and ask them when they last polled there machine
