I know the snow in Surrey was a lot worse than in London etc etc,

But i've just had a Surrey double decker bus slide down the hill, as I was driving up the hill.

Seeing a massive vehicle like this moving down a hill whilst all of its wheels are locked up is very scary!!

I like the way Red Ken was sniping at Boris about this, but when asked how many accidents there were last time buses were allowed to run in these conditions he couldn't come back with anything other than speculation that there probably weren't any... Last time we had these conditions, I doubt the buses had any driver assistance systems such as ABS :)

The gritters still should have been out beforehand though...

It was a bit silly that they weren't running all day when most of the main roads were clear by midday, even out here in Kent.

Not that most of us had any use for a bus by that point. We were all playing in the park!

My whole street erupted into a snowball fight... awesome :D Still laughing about it. Got a lot of neighbours talking to each other as well.

cause much damage ?

MW

Not a great deal as it was very slow and a quiet road, ended up knocking down a wall and resting in bushes!

Obviously, in different circumstances, this could have been much worse, considering on the other side of the road in a hill full of snow, ful of people sliding down it!

I haven't visited london many times, but I don't recall there being many steep hills in the city that couldn't have been bypassed?

and run it past me again how well grit works in heavy snow? (the snow was heavy enough to make gritting completely ineffective)

today was a different case when the slush from yesterday iced over, but gritting would have been a waste of time on Mon.
