9.1's out!

hmm tried to go back to 8.12 hotfix but windows is having none of it - for some reason it says in the device manager that the drivers failed to load. Done the full driver sweep in safe mode as well but it's still the same so am stuck with 9.1 now.

^ Yep also got the same problem Steve. You can't roll back. Will be having words with ATi about that.

EDIT : 15k posts :p

Folks,

For those who have 4870 1GB, anyone runs World At War manages to max'd out everything and obtain 50+fps?

DO I clean the existing drivers first before installing 9.1, where I might find the driver cleaner?

Thanks!

Use System restore to 8.12 as it better then using roll-back.

Try installing over the top first as Driver Sweeper can some times screw things up.
If over the top does not work then system restore then DS it & pray.

Hmm, that's funny, I reverted back to 8.12 hotfix last night, using the usual unistall then safemode driversweeper - reinstall 8.12 method. Worked perfectly.

Well you should be getting around 60-90 fps with that card but I drop frames when there is a lot of somke on screen "34fps I have seen before"
I run COD5 1920X1200 60hz no AA 8X anntistropythingy
shadows on "shadows off gives back over10 FPS" Dynamic grass off.

Regards

I've been using 9.1 playing Oblivion and GTA IV on a 4870x2 under Vista x64 (fresh install) and the games keep crashing (not responding) after 20-40 minutes playing time. Is this a recognised problem?

on the 9.1's I get no CF tab and when I use one card I get driver has stopped responding error not long after I start playing a game. Well worth the wiat these drivers, I love my ATI card(s) but after 3 months of bad drivers and problems I getting close to changing.

Good news! It's about World At War.

I max'd out everything, AA=4X, AF=Maximum, FPS holds at 60 and it never goes above 60 though even if I pan to the sky. At times, it dropped to 57 but the new driver seems to have frane rate immune to smoke which is the biggest enemy of driver and cards.

Looks really good. I have not checked out GTA IV yet, it used to be very smooth even previously I was using 8.8.

As far as World at War is concerned, previous driver like 8.8, the frame rates varied from high 30s to 70. Now it seems that 9.1 lowers the frame rates to 60 maybe for stability reason.

...Just hangs on 'Analyse' when I try to install them. Seems like a few people on here have mentioned the same problem. Re-installed the 8.12s for now.

Meh, system restore is pretty useless. You're better off just doing a fresh install if you mess up or want to change something major.

It has done me well many times & the GPU driver is not major.
And you have little to lose by doing a system restore to find out if it fixes what you messed up before you do a fresh install.

What does MEH mean ?

Peter Tsang,
Sounds like you have a cap set on max FPS,If you try this and set to say 150 or more and see what you get then com_maxfps 150

You need to enable Console first and press the tidle key `

Let me get this right. So you are saying the frame rate's cap can be altered? I didn't know that. The good thing that 9,1 has apparently brought about is the frame rate never dropped below 55 during my test. So hit "~" to go to the Console, then type in "com_maxfps 150" is that it? Right, I shall certainly try that out when I get back home tonight.

On a separate note, I wonder if anyone has came across this problem which I am experiencing after installing 9.1 on top of 8.8. So far I have tested out the following titles:

Call of Duty World at War
Strike Fighter Project 1
Wings over Vietnam
Rise of Nations

Everyone knows that Call of Duty World at War, the other 3 are old titles. I have had this problem with Rise of Nations. In-game, this RTS game engine is using 2D graphics. I got this flickering or blinking of the entire screen every now and then. And for all of the above tiltes, everytime the game menu went from one to another, the flickering or blinking occurred again.

What could be done trying to fix this issue?

Any reported increase in games?

I seem to be loosing more FPS in games the further away from 8.8's I move. Think I'll have to go back and test some earlier versions and see what difference it really makes.
