I really need to find out who she was talking about. If he/she did indeed look like a golliwog then I don't see the problem. A note to all budding BBC employees though - don't think of using a simile to describe something in your interview - someone might find it offensive.

Carol Thatcher is not my cup of tea, but at least she's not pandering to political correctness and refusing to apologise for a private conversation. Should never have been leaked.

I seem to remember Big Ron getting the sack/barred from ITV for using the n-word.

I never understand the whole "it has nothing to do with you therefore why are you offended" attitude that is sometimes around. The word used has been used in the past in a derogatory and demeaning manner. It is insulting to the people who have been subject to that. She should have said sorry, and moved on.

Really odd question, but would anybody be allowed to say this in their own workplace, and get away it? :confused:

Who are these people? If they were there with good reason at the time and took offence, and she refused to apologise there and then, then the decision is justified. If it's just more jumping on bandwagons then someone at the BBC needs to get a grip on reality.
