I'm off to Banff in the morning for two weeks snowboarding, I very much doubt I will be boarding everyday so on my off days I would like to do some activities / see some sights.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? Where to eat / go out etc?

Hi, I only had 2 days in Banff Canada (I’m assuming Canada ) you should go to the Banff Gondola some of the views from the top are simply stunning. I would also recommend a trip to the local sweet shop it has sooo much sweets you will spend allot also the main street has a great little tourist shops.

Also Banff Springs at the Fairmont, we got a voucher with our stay their but it’s not that expensive. Their is also within 4 miles of Banff, Some amazing lakes and the bow falls. Both easy accessible with busses or by mountain bikes which can be hired.

Aye Banff Canada :) Ta for the info. The gondala looks good, not sure I can justify the space in my luggage for the SLR though :(

Trust me if your going to canada take the SLR! Once your up the gondola go to the weather station look for the DR Initials on wooden rail look straight ahead you will see what I mean about the view ;)

Forgot to ask where are you staying, as most of the mainstreet hotels have elk wandering around right outside at night as the previous poster said. its awesome. but dont get too close though :p

See if there is some back country dog sledding you can do. I was in Aspen for a couple of weeks a few years ago and had a day off the board and did this, it was amazing (and another great reason to take the slr if you can find some doggies.)

Skiing, seriously, give it a go one of th days. $
IF you already know how to ski then hire some touriing equipment and a guide and do some nice touring away from the busy pistes.

Otherwise snowshoeing, tubing etc.

You can also take a day trip to Edmonton just for some shopping. West Edmonton Mall isn't the largest shopping centre in the world anymore but is still the largest in North America (and 5th in the world).

(Being from Edmonton myself, I had to plug that.)

I cant remember how close this is because we drove from Whistler to Banff and it was about 7 years ago.. but I do remember a glacier tour thing. We didnt get to go on it, I remember because the trucks they took you on looked awesome.

Watch out for the Elk wandering the streets! Lovely place Banff, stayed there when we went to lake louise

Pretty sure they're Caribou not Elk, that's what we were told anyway, not that it really matters when theres a blooming great big heard of them taking over the town, it's quite a sight whatever they are :)

lake louise is beautifull, take a kayak out on it if its not frozen.

It'll be proper frozen at this time of year, still worth a trip up there for both skiing/boarding and to see the ice sculputres on the lake too :)

You definitely need to get up onto the gondola for the views whatever you do, and you'll be kicking yourself for not taking the SLR if you don't!!!

Shame that the Glacier Tour isn't running in the winter, was definitely the highlight of my trip.

Other than that: find a bear; find a moose/elk/caribou (shouldn't have to look hard!); have a drink in the British Legion, they're all a great laugh and very friendly; visit Lake Louise, absolutely stunning.
