Sudden enlightenment and realisation of death...

what if God is the universe.
I like that thought too.

We have this universe, it's big and complicated and mysterious and arguably a living, undulating, ever-changing thing. We don't know why it started, though we may soon have some idea how, or at least what it was doing in the first instant after it triggered.

It surrounds us, intrigues us, houses us, frightens us.

Inside it we have to live by certain rules or we face destroying humanity (wars, pollution, etc).

Hrm, interesting.

Science is just as much a faith as any religion.

Science just has way, way, more proof than any religion?
You can tell me that god exists all you want and it's your word.
But you can show me that acid burns by pouring it on my hand.

Religion is faith. Science, true science, is prooven.

You talk as if you are seperate from it.......but your made of the universe.

As I have said many times on here, the idea of the self is an illusion. Even the very part of your brain that forms the idea of identity is made from the same field of matter which contains everything else.

When you understand this you realise your actually not seperate from anything.....instead simply one expression of the whole.

Have you taken a second recently to think about what you believe will happen?

Yeah, I don't think anything happens once you're gone thats it, like when you black out but without waking up to reflect on it. You'll probbably never even realize you're dead, only that you're going to die.

True indeed.

You miss the point.

Science is knowledge.

We don't yet have knowledge about the big how/what/why of the universe.

If science manages to tell us how the universe began, and what it's all made of, wonderful! But will it tell us /why/?

Science hasn't even got as far as the how and what yet.

Religion offers an idea of the why, and suggests that there may be a questions of 'who?', too.

So, you can have faith that a creator did it.
Or, you can have faith that science will tell us.
Or, you can just wait and see.

But is it proven? Or are the results we find a result of God?

You split the atom down to the quark, who made the quarks? Science is just as much faith as religion. Just because we see tangible proof of results doesn't mean there isn't something at work behind those results.

Since has always been about the 'Why'(The whole point of science), it's just in this case we haven't worked it out.

We fall from womb to tomb, from one blackness and toward another, remembering little of the one and knowing nothing of the other...except through faith.

Always wanted to post that :D

Why would you know someone that's re-incarnated? You don't come back as yourself every time :p

And not everyones knows if they have....just a select view have faint memories of 'a past life'.

That's what I'm trying to say :)
Also, to the last point, I think that's called bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, hah! :p

Ultimately im looking forward to it. I try my best to appreciate things on the way, I think im lucky to have what I have (if not a lot) and had the best upbringing I could have asked for. But an afterlife? Really I really hope there isnt one, when im switch off im switch off, I dont want to be switched back on to find that there is more of this crap, or worse I end up being a chav.

We are a pinprick of accidental consciousness in a sandwich of infinite non-existence. The universe will not miss any of us when we revert to our natural state. And we won't miss it either.

I fear death no more than I fear sleep. Speaking of which, time for a snooze.

Not really, science is just about predicting out comes.

It never states "this is fact, this IS what happens" it just says this theory gets the answer right the most.

If a better one comes along then that becomes the current theory.

Not nessicerally, all you know is that the universe and all that you've encountered has existed only scince you became aware.
when you leave the room it may cease to exist, when you die the universe may cease to exist :p
