In my experience, Defender has a soul destroying impact on performance. Get shut of the realtime scanning and just schedule scans if you have to......
i disable the real-time scanning, and set it to a daily scan..
saying that, i've never had it find anything on my pc, i might as well remove it tbh
Nor me.cant say i have ever noticed that
I assume that real time scanning is the same as real time protectionhow do you stop real time scanning?

I assume that real time scanning is the same as real time protection

I just left it at its default setting, sitting in the background doing its thing.

Likewise.
I don't pay much attention to it, every so often Windows Update tells me Defender needs updated which I do, but other than that I don't actually "use" it.
Does it sit in the background using up resources at its default settings?.
I have avast! and Spysweeper ( subscribed to ) on my system so do I really need to keep Defender on there or should I just bin it?.
If you uninstall it, what happens when a new update for it appears. Does it confuzzle Windows Update if you have binned Defender....lol....!!!??.![]()
i have just stopped the real time scanning. so it's still there to use if need be. under the options in the menu. if you have spysweeper then prob no need to use it.

How do you turn off "Real Time Protection" in Defender?.
I can't see an option anywhere to turn it off?.![]()

So it is!!!
Didn't realise you had to scroll down.
Thanks for the tip.![]()
yeah i know i have been using vista for 18 months and did not see the scroll

so do the peeps that dont use it just count on uac and virus software?
