Been to look at a Focus Titanium 2.0 TDCI. First one I've seen up close and tbh I really didn't like it. The Alloys are shocking, the interior had a few very plasticky areas, especially the naff cubby hole on the dash and the arm rest. However that being said its either that, a Mondeo Zetec/Titanium or Astra Sports Hatch 150PS Diesel with the Exterior pack.

Really don't know which way to go. I've asked my boss if he'd chip in for some decent alloys for the Focus as they really are dire, enough to make my boss agree and think about paying for better ford alloys.

Overall I need a car that's will bore me the least out of the three over 3 years. The Astra looks much nicer but I've not driven any to compare them. I've currently got an old shape Mondeo Zetec 130PS.

Opinions needed guys :)

The Mondeo is the least awful car in that list. It's actually rather good provided you get a good spec one. The Astra is a cheap learner/gure car built for BSM and Enterprise, who buy most of them anyway

I was very impressed with the Mondeo Titanium I had as a hire car a while back. Absolute worlds ahead of anything Vauxhall have **** out, anyway. Lovely build quality and drove well. Wasn't a fan of the TDCI engine but I can't really blame the car for that ;)

if it was based on looks only, the sport hatch would win easily, but as this is a company car where you will probably be doing lots of miles, it has to be the mondeo imo

It would most likely be the Titanium.

Not driven any of them yet. Just worried the Mondeo will feel too much like the one I have. 3 years is enough so want something with a different feel.

Mondeo seems like the obvious choice if you've got a lot of miles per day

I do 20 miles round trip to work and rack up around 18K a year so not a lot really.

Are the engines (2.0 Diesels) the same unit?

I don't believe so although I may well be wrong. I understood that the newer Mondeos had the same engine as the more recent Mazda 6. My Dad has a 55 plate Mondy which sounds like a sack of old spanners, the newer ones seem to be a lot quieter and more refined.

The Mondy is ok as a mile muncher, its not too bad to drive either.Bags of kit and its gonna be reliable on the whole.Oh and its bloody huuuuge:p

I just dont like the way it looks, I know its in an conservative sector, but the Mazda 6,Accord, even the new Avensis look much better imo.

Theres a good article about these kind of cars in Car magazine this month, pretty good reading.

I dont think I could drive a normal model Focus now, the seats are as bad as the Astra's, well specced tho.

doing such a tiny millage I'd ask if I could have the money spread over three years and buy something that you want instead, 11.5k mondeo diesels for 18k miles a year don't make sense.

The boss is thinking about the however it would be under the condition I'd buy something 'suitable'.

I'd like either a Z4 or a VX220 so not really 'suitable' lol
