Bikers - Blue or Green Ninja ZX6R?!

Flukestar with all due respect, everything I read about the CB500 is great.

They race them for christs sake - many racers started their careers on them. They are not 'learner' bikes, they are just used by learner centres. There is a difference. No one would claim the GS500 or ER-5 is anything but a learner bike, because their handling and build quality is so much poorer. The CB500, on the other hand, is a modern classic!

Anyone who thinks someone can just start on a superbike is an idiot.

Most single rider fatalies occur on supersport bikes. Too much power to handle even for experienced riders, hence why so many older people also die on the roads now and not just young stupid ones. So many blades, etc are sold simply because there are a lot of posers. Very few people can ride them properly, otherwise there would be thousands on entries in the TT wouldn't there?

Why can so few people admit they buy pointlessly expensive bikes? if you could push a fireblade to the max you would be in the motogp not on this forum.

One thing that I have already noticed about large parts of the biking community is this obsession with new gear and new bikes. As many writers have pointed out; by and large the standard of riding is terrible. I agree, I don't want to start arguing over seconds here and there; one of the pathetic things about motors forum and people into cars in general is that they are essential anoraks. The day biking becomes a battle of statistics, it will become like the crap on top gear.

Frankly, I don't care what bike I own, I just want to become a good rider. And the CB500 gives me more cash for track days. :) And everything I will need.

Its not my fault I don't posess an inferiority complex that forces me to go out and buy the biggest thing money can buy.

Hmmm not really, theres a difference between being fast and a good rider to being a racer fast, and also some guys just cant ride tracks.
But are some guys who do road racing like the TT who are much quicker than world champion track riders.

Also racing is Really expensive, I know a lot of guys who are really quick and are faster than guys on track who are racer but simply cant afford it, its not as easy as im fast team me up with Rossi.

Jesus Christ. Just did a Carole Nash Quote on CB500 TPFT. No security fitted.

£129!!!

LOL

(Seals the deal).

I agree with almost every view point here but I would suggest the vast majority of bikers are not like this.

I personally cannot afford a snazzy bike nor the insurance for it and so I ride a CB500 (bulletproof reliability but still fun enough) and I have never felt looked down on or anything.

You will get a few people who ride bikes who are up their own bottoms but there are people like this in every walk of life.

P.S. Don't talk about figures if you don't approve of other people doing it. I personally find the whole figures thing ridiculous and would much rather get on a bike and have some fun :p

good price - which to me says it ISNT A VERY QUICK BIKE.

Do the same search for a 1000 'blade/GSXR1000/ZX10/R1 they are very quick bikes. Or even 600 supersports/750's - they are quick bikes.

The CB500 is a commuters hack. Which is great - they quick enough to nip through traffic, have enough grunt to get you where you need to be etc and i wouldnt want to be riding round London everyday on my 'Blade, but then i wouldnt argue its as good a commuter anyway (tho actually, it probably is :p).

and FYI i didnt buy my bike to pose on, i bought it as i wanted something newer, lighter and quicker than my SP1 (which is in istelf a quick bike).

Yea if you ride it like you stole it :p

:D

I am surprised I've not been pulled on the CB500 yet. When out for a good hoon, the revs are usually up around 8000.

I enjoy the fact I have to work the bike hard to get as much out of it as possible.

Of course you can have fun on anything, and hell maybe they race them. But a CB500 aint a bike you buy for fun imo. No-one is saying get a superbike as first bike. It's just you always ask for advice then shoot everyone down in flames with fingers in ears.

Sure a lot of bikers are 'posers', inc me... I can't push my bike anywhere near it's limits, but I have so much fun at least exploring what the bike and me can do together.

Bikes are cheap, which means you can replace them quite a lot, they also don't last long if ridden hard, by time my bike gets to 30k miles it's gonna be pretty much had it. This gives the impression to non-bikers such as yourself that they change for no reason other than to look flash.

A litre sportbike aint pointless, it's fun... if I went and rode a CB500 I'd think 'my god this is rubbish'. I rode a Z750 a few weeks back and it was aweful, a pile of bouncy illhandling smelly stuff lol. It's all relative I guess to what your used to...

You just need to stop worrying so much, go with your heart, not your head, thats what biking is about.. be it a 'CB500' or whatever. If thats what your heart desires, but tbh I doubt it... you'll be pottering along on CB500 and a CBR600 will tear past you and you'll think 'dam, i bought the wrong bike'

It's just the way it is, at least for me...

You want a bike to learn the ropes with, maybe a SV650 is in order, can get them dirt cheap and will be more fun than a CB500 maybe.

btw, you started the statistics bit, sure a hornet gets to 60 in 3.2secs and does a 12.1 1/4, but believe me... it's NOT a fast bike by any stretch of the imagination, it's just a bike.

Just my random 2p :)

Crikey mate. We've agreed on something. :)

I genuinely don't come on this forum (despite what some people think) just to annoy people so this makes me happy. :)

Do you frequent that cb500 owners site?

Ringing neck out of bikes like CB500 is good fun, but it's dam hard work :D

Not sure the bike will like to play like that all the time though without going bang!!

I would just get a Bandit/Hornet/Fazer for london use, but older models, should keep the insurance down, either way its london and someone will try and steal it lol

Sorry for being a bit agressive too. Thanks for the info. I don't want to be an IES. There is nothing more idiotic. So sorry if I came across that way.

To be honest, thats the other major thing I haven't mentioned in favour of Cb500. Even if I had the stomach to pay insurance on a beast, this is London riding. I won't have a terrific amount of time for pleasure riding and will be filtering agressively (like I do on my push bike).

I don't think I should do that in a beautiful R6.... :)

She gets about a week to recover each time :p

On the other hand, I made my VFR400 go pop before I sold it.

It was well worth it though :D

lol the thing I find with ringing the necks off bikes like the CB is you want to keep it flat out as long as possible and try to stay in rev range lol, but then my usual problem is not realising the brakes are poo compared to what im used too, but thats all part of the fun :D

I've often thought that perhaps the paradox of a supersports is that, providing you can ride it sensibly, it might be safer because of the better brakes?

In theory yes, but its all with experience again, the brakes are good and sharp but if you dont know what you are doing and grab a handfull you will crash, I did this and it was only on an SV650, about a month after passing it was wet car in front slammed on and I just grabbed the front brake down I went, wont be doing that again anytime soon, on bikes you DO learn from your mistakes lol it hurts :p

I would say the safest sportsbike would be the new Blade with Traction control and ABS, hell I want to have a go to see If I can actually crash the thing!

I don't think I should do that in a beautiful R6.... :)

Erm no lol it will get covered in crap and then u have a clapped out sportsbike that you cant even pose on :p

I have rode in and out of london quite a few times on my gsxr 750 and as much as I love my bike, your forearms end up looking like popeye after 20 mins of traffic lol as your always braking or someone's trying to kill you in front lol, but u dont loose at the Lights GP on a sportsbike :p

worse kind of riders, ones who buy a 10K bike, ride it for 6 months during the summer, spend all there time over taking people on straights at 130mph and trying to get there knee down around corners, then park up and proceed to tell the world how they're gods gift to motorcycling, then at the first sign of rain they put it in the garage on there optimate for the next 6 months

No swearing me right off, they're the ones that cause all the accidents in the summer, bloody power rangers.

who's got more skill, the guy who can ride to work and back 364 days of the year through snow, ice, tractor No swearing and uber coldness or the guy who can ride past people on a straight line.

No swearing me, even i can manage an indicated 149mph on my Speed Triple with no fairing, now that takes balls and a neck like a bull, not tucking in behind a pussy fairing lol

/rant mode off

:D:D:D:D
