I sold a set of door handles on Ebay from my old Focus. Nowhere in the listing where the handles stated as any colour and the picture is of a set of black handles with some light reflection on them.

Now I posted them and the guy received them fine, however he has sent me an email saying the he only received black handles not the silver handles I had listed!

Am I within my rights to refuse a refund as he bought them by mistake? I shouldn't have to lose out on postage costs and Ebay fees because he couldn't ask me a question! Where whould Ebay stand on this? Would they just refund him?

Thanks,
Andy

Short answer, yes it was his fault, /thread :)

is the picture missleading?

If they are clearly black then you are in the right.

and yes paypal are ***** but if he tries hopefully they'll just read the advert and side with you..

They do look silverish to me...

Well found! :)

To me they look black, you can see its a light reflection.. It doesn't state silver in the listing, and the standard handles are black. If he was unsure, he should have posted me a question!

If that was the picture then the seller is at fault. They look silver to me!

yep, clearly cheap tacky black plastic. But Paypal would almost certainly side with seller.

You can either hope he doesn't go through paypal or take the hit and learn a lesson. You can never add to much detail..

the ebay sale said:
They are all in excellent condition and would be a great buy for someone looking to colour code their Focus!

Kind of implies that they arent the standard black ones as well..

BTW, if the picture and quote are from the wrong ebay item, im very sorry, but the username ties up, so im fairly sure.

I would have stated in the description that they were black and not silver like they appeared in the picture, and the seller shold perhaps have confirmed the colour before purchasing. I'd say it's 50/50 on fault IMO.

Best just to give the money back and mvoe on.

Yeh they are from the right listing! :)

The quote about colour coding to me, implies that they are standard and would be good for someone wishing to buy them to get painted for their car. If I had thought the picture looked silver I would have mentioned it, but to me it really does look black!

I've sent him a message anyway telling him I'm not refunding him anyway.. :)

Here goes my 100% feedback!

If there was no description of colour in the auction and the above pictures were supposed to be a true representation of the item being sold then I personally would side with the buyer.

The picture certainly looks like the items are silver.
Sure - the buyer could have checked the colour before purchase, however he shouldn't really need to.
Either the auction should confirm colour of the picture should be clear enough.

If it comes to a dispute I'd say Paypal will side with the buyer and not because "they always side with the buyer", rather the picture is misleading.

They don't look black to me... spectrum of the colours that picture shows them to be:

If I were you I'd tell them I'd give them a refund on return of the item.

If thats the picture then they defo look silver/grey. In no manner do they look black. If you are trying to say in the picture, light reflecting off of them make them look silver when they are infact black then that is not right.
There is no way for the buyer to know that and without it stating in nthe description what colour they actually are then the picture is the only guide.

I would definately give the buyer his money back on that as (again if that is the picture) it is incredibly misleading.

Black??? They don't look black in the slightest. Definately silver.

I think Paypal will side with the buyer here. If they are actually black, then the picture is VERY misleading!
