im getting totally lost in my search for upgrading my memory.. after almost buying OCZ Platinum 1600mhz ive turned my attention to the Crucial Ballistix, although never used them nor heard any feedback from anyone.

anyone have any advice? basically im just looking for the best 3x2gb ram for my system in the sig.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

DDR2 Ballistix had a tendancy to fail fairly often but if you had a good set then they were very good. I have not heard any good or bad things mentioned about DDR3 ones

ive got a set of ballistix 2gb never had an issue with them. nd i would disagree with previous post. ive always used crucial and ive never had anything wrong with the countless modules ive used. would totally recommend

In terms of RMA.

Corsair = Netherlands RMA

OCZ = Netherlands RMA

G.Skill = Netherlands RMA

Crucial = UK RMA

Had 3 sticks of DDR2 Ballistix die running at only 1.8v and 356Mhz in about a year. Crucial are a good brand just there DDR2 seems to be a bit fragile very quick RMA though so no problem really.

had my balistic tracer sinse dec, they released a new version which is meant to fix the fail issue. mines been fine, had it running at quite a nice clock

thanks for the info guys, seems like a mixed bag of reviews... but im tempted by Ballistix because of the UK connection, i prefer to buy british if its worth it... but i did hear some rumours about high fail rate... but hopefully steve s is right that they have fixed it... plus it has LEDs, its all about the LEDs lol.

i still cant really decide between the OCZ/GSkill/Corsair or Ballistix... im swaying towards Ballistix because im told they are fast and they are UK based, although the OCZ platinum do look and sound quite good.. i dunno, i guess i should give Ballistix a go.

EDIT: im pretty sure i will go with the ballistix tracers they run at 1.65v which intel says is the i7 limit but they are marketed as i7 memory so i cant see any problems.. so i was about to order 3x2gb 1600Mhz although i was just checking the p6t manual before i confirmed the order and it says:

'due to intel spec definition, xmp dimms and ddr3-1600 are supported for one dimm per channel only'

huh? ive never heard of this limitation with the i7.. if i did opt for 1600mhz would i be limited to 3x2gbs?? that kind of makes me think 1333mhz is now the better option if i want to buy another set of 3x2gb.. but ive never heard of this before?

I had 3 sets of this memory PC2 8500, was never overclocked and all of them are gone - just dead after few months.
I recommend OCZ or Corsair - much better memory.

Can't comment on their DDR3 stuff... but as mentioned any of their DDR2 stuff thats using D9GMH chips dies v. v. quickly...

Same here - very reliable for me when I used their DDR2 modules - I usually found you could reduce the voltage to save heat and wear and they were very good - does depend on how much you are pushing them though.

I absolutely love my 4x1Gb´s Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500. Never ever messed anything up, and nice clockers too. And good warranty, if anything should go haywire. And when times come, to start on a DDR3-system, I´ll problably buy Crucial Ballistix again (seen good reviews of Ballistix DDR3), or just maybe G.Skill Perfect Storms (They look VERY nice too).

Edit : Should I mention that my Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500´s, has been running without a hitch for 2 years in an overclocked environment....

Love mine but they are on the way out:(

Were running at full speed at only 1.9v instead of 2.0v but now had to drop them 800mhz at 2.0v just to pass memtest :(

RMA service is 2nd to none though so should have replacement ones nice a quick :)

Had 2 sticks of DDR fail twice and 4 of DDR2 fail, replaced quickly without any quibling, but it does seem fragile.
