Quick question about the pre facelift Coupe Sports. To be precise, 2001.

Did they actually ever them as Sports like you can buy now a days? For instance, in my E60 brochure there is an actual M sport section its not an option as such.

Only reason I ask is that a mate of mine has recentlty bought a 2001 Coupe Sport but none of the documentation says "Sport" on it. Nor does it come up as this with any insurance company, etc but it most definately is a "Sport" according to orignal purchase invoice.

Just curious tis all.

The 330Ci Sport model was introduced in 2001. The first are on Y plates. The genuine Sport models will have 'Sport' on the V5. They will also have a complete Sport bodykit, M branded door entry strips, and importantly (As its hard to fake), Anthracite Headlining.

If it doesn't say Sport on the V5 it's almost certainly not a Sport. 2001 is a difficult year as its where the changeover occured. There are lots of regular Coupes with Sport seats etc etc but these are not official Sport models.

It normally says Sport on the V5, mine says 328ci SE

By the way a 2001 coupe is a prefacelift, they didn't facelift the coupe until 2003 (LED rear lights and upswept front lights).

I've always found it frustrating that Sport doesn't also mean a touch more bhp. It would have rounded the option off really nicely.

Ok cool, thanks.

We have the original purchase invoice and its littered with options like Sport Aero package, MF sport wheel, full electric sport seats, HK stereo but I'll check the headlining.

Yeah, I knew that much :p ;)

If those items are listed separately then it's probably not a sport I would say. You can buy all the sport options separately without having a sport.

The original purchase invoice of a Sport won't have things like the Aero Package listed because they are part of the car standard specification.

I have the invoice for my Sport, and it doesnt mention any of the Sport options at all - as they are standard fit. It simply says '530i Sport Saloon 3.0 M54' and then lists the additional options purchased.

If he has all the bits listed on his invoice, then its not a Sport, it's a regular Coupe with bits and bobs added to it when it was new. I suspect then that it's an X reg car.

If the BMW Service receipts say Sport Coupe then it's a Sport, simplest way to be 100% sure :)

Both area equally simple but most people are likely to keep their V5 safe at home and service receipts etc in the car for convenience!

Well, I would anyway...

i keep all paperwork at home, why do i want crap cluttering up my car?

I thought you were the clean one!

Well conveniently on bmws you have 2 trays in the boot, one on each side and even more convenient is that the leather case thing where the manual/service booklet etc are stored fits in these like a glove so I keep mine in there.

Seems logical to keep the manual in the car as well as service book with service receipts etc no?

V5 stays at home with the spare keys & license etc.

I keep my sat nav one tray (in Volvo it fit under the armrest, much better)

i didn't think there was one on the other side (CD changer and bag hook only?)

E39's only have one larger tray.

My service invoices are in an A4 folder kept at home. There is no reason to carry the entire service history of the car with you. What possible use is it?

It made sense to me to do so tbh, manual in the leather case thing as well as service stamp book bmw card and breakdown card in the little card slot in the case too - might as well keep service receipts in there too since they go hand in hand? and the odd maintenance receipt etc.

It's not like they're left in and around the area, fold it and put it in the case along with the service booklet, simple.

Anyway, we're picking at straws here, one person's convenience is another persons pet peeve I suppose.

On volvos or bmws? E46s have 2 trays as well as the double slot cubby hole (single if you have the CD change in there too) behind the secure door bit in the boot.
