Halo Wars Demo on XBL Thurs Feb 5th 9am GMT

I really like it, cutscenes are excellent and the controls are very easy. It's nice to have a simple action orientated RTS for once, I don't want to have 7 hour battles across 8 square mile maps with 60'000 units to manage.

loved it, as said already its very simplfied controls - the easiest of any console RTS i've played, they had to do that i think because 1) its a RTS and 2) not everyone likes them as they think they are difficult and 3) so they made it very easy for all them Halo fans who only know how to pull right trigger to fire, lol

Lol, I actually prefer that. I hate it when games get too complicated, if Halo Wars is an RTS for the casual gamer then so be it :)

Just because it's simple doesn't make it poor, it just means that the game isn't for you.

There's a big difference between simple and overly simplified imo, but there's no point debating a difference of opinions :)

2. I guess it is FOV as it is 3D. I suppose on a 2D RTS it would be lack of resolution? (i.e. the difference between playing the same RTS in 640*480 as opposed to 1024*768, is what I mean).

Yeah, I suppose ignoring semantics we are making the same point :)

Will this be the first Halo game you aren't purchasing? I'm shocked and horrified Kree! :o

+1. I shall be picking this up when I have some dosh. The last RTS I really enjoyed was Rise of Nations! :D

i really liked it, best RTS game i've enjoyed on a console since RA1, i'll certainly look out for it once it drops down to about £30 (i don't consider ANY game worth more then £30 these days :p)

my only one gripe, and it's not just this game, but what is it with RTSs and fricking population caps these days? i loved building massive armies in RA1/2 but it's just not possible these days (on PC games i tend to remove the pop caps for single player/1 player skirmish in the code). ah well, it wasn't so bad.

i quite liked the base structure, it made you think a bit more about what buildings were built and trying to achieve a balance, blow me down those scarabs are hard though!

I thought you were a Halo fan - oh well doesn't matter then :p I was trying to make you feel guilty!

I played a lot of Halo 3 as my mates did but I'm not interested in the Halo "plot" and don't find the games particularly fun in multiplayer.

Saying that I'll end up getting this as Alrik and Krono will no doubt buy it to feed their Halo addiction.

I'm very disappointed by the AI, easily beating the hardest setting without any issues or knowledge of the game. You don't buy this kind of game for single player though so hopefully it will be fun for 3v3 online.

Population caps are helpful to keep the game balanced and force regular battles, as well as guaranteeing that the limited RAM on the 360 can cope.

loved this, shame no multiplayer in the demo though, cant wait to get the full game now.

best rts since bfme2

TBH the controls are fine for a console RTS, but then i rather enjoyed endwar and everyone i ever talked to about it said it was crap, when it just wasn't  halo wars seems ok, sure its not supreme commander but its certainly not a complete failure

I will

You have no interest in the Halo story though so it's obvious you won't be buying it for single player. I love the halo story (games and books) so am looking forward to more story in the universe.

Sweeping statement. I know you only pretty much play multiplayer exclusively, but some people (e.g. me) do prefer single player to multiplayer, believe it or not.

Hmmm big RTS fan and big Halo fan here...

Demo is pretty poor yet it's got that Halo feel WHICH I LOVE.

Mixed feelings, because I'm playing the Warhammer beta pretty hard which is light years ahead of this, this is my first console RTS too and it really can't compete with the PC.

It's still Halo though :( the cut scenes are fantastic and quite possibly what the next Halo could be like.
