Hey, I'm interested in expanding my musical knowledge and I've decided to go backwards in time.

I am looking for some album recommendations from the great artists between the 60's - 80's or so, an example of some artists I'd be interested in are - Bob Dylan, The Doors, Hendrix, Bowie, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin etc.

Basically it seems there were a hell of a lot of good records made and I don't know the first place to start. I'm after the great albums that will give me a good insight into that era in music, and since a few people here were around then, I was hoping to get some experienced recommendations.

Cheers!

Here we go:

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II
Cream - Disraeli Gears
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

As far as Led Zep go, you can't go wrong with I - IV released between 1969 and 1971.
The Doors... I would recommend their self titled debut (1967) and Strange Days (also 1967).
Black Sabbath - self titled (1970), Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1974), Sabotage (1975), Heaven & Hell (1980)

Other great album choices would be...

David Bowie - Hunky Dory (1971)
Carole King - Tapestry (1971)
Neil Young - Harvest (1972)
Jethro Tull - Aqualung (1971)
