Most people who run classics will not think it's a bad idea.

Here are some more ideas easy to spanner, easy to get parts for and well within your budget: Morris Minor, Ford 100E, Triumph Herald, Austin A35, MG Midget. Probably loads more.

Thanks, wasn't the Spitfire kind of a "rival" to the Midget, "back in the day"? Also a Triumph Herald is what a Spitfire is based on is it not?

Would these be cars would find more suitable, or just alternatives to think about? :)

eBay buy it now and there's one round the corner from me.

Why buy it now? As I don't have the money available at the moment.

What? Your Mums car wasn't much more than that brand new. You are not doing much of a job of enhancing your credibility here..

A 90's Vectra is a £900 car not a several thousand pound car.

You can pay several thousand for a 90s vectra if you want. Also my mums car was almost twice £4000 new so it shows how much you know.

My mum doesn't drive a Kia, my step mum drives a Matiz.
Same difference, cheap Korean crap, shame you couldn't use your expertise to point her in the right direction.

But you have said yourself you know nothing about cars mechanics so how would you differentiate a banger and a minter with only price to go on?

Yes, I would assume in this case it would be using the mean.
So you would be having above average intelligence... compared to everyone, not average. Yes, that's clearly a lie.

I meant currently on eBay on a 'buy it now'

Those others were just some alternatives to think about. Since the Spit shares a lot of parts with the Herald, parts are plentiful, interchangeable and cheap.

You could pay £20,000 for one if you wanted what exactly is your point?

Broadspeed will supply you with a brand spanking new Matiz 'S' for £4837 on the road, right now. Infact, they also have pre-registered examples on 58 plates for £3978.

So there you go - a virtually brand new car thats a banger according to you and your amazing wealth of car knowledge.

No you can't, i havent seen a 90's vectra above £1000 for ages.

So what if your mums Daewoo was £8000 new, its probably worth a grand - shows how much you know.

If my £1000 Fiesta is a banger, i am very happy with it.

With all due respect teaboy5, that is an old mondeo, and is a "banger" to me. This is just to me though, as it is from what I can tell in nice condition, and looks smart. My idea of a banger isn't really typical though, obviously, as most people see a banger as something like a metro. But I just use the term sort of exaggerated for anything I don't find desirable and is a bit old. But I think your all making a meal out of one word I said. I would like to get back on topic please.

It's probably not even worth that. I never said it's worth 8k now, we were talking about the cost it was new.
