After listening to this, I have some idiot on YouTube trying to convince me that Verizon are right:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCJ3Oz5JVKs

Here are some of the comments he has posted:

No, I'm not, it's $71.79, .002 multiplied by 5 is a penny, .002 multiplied by 500 is $1, also if you do it on a piece of paper you'll see it's 71.786 .002 eventually will equal 100 pennies, that's when you have multiplied .002 by 500 to make $1, yes $1. So in this case at least Verizon was right, it was was to be 71cents, then the customer would have used around 350kbs.

It's dollars, thank you very much, i'm sorry you can't do simple math, i guess generation X was the last good generation that received any good amount of education at least in mathematics. I hope you're not working for a financial insitution you would be screwed.

I'm sorry maybe you should go back to elementry school, lets break it down, it takes .002 five times to equal one penny, so you multiply that by lets say 500 you get $1, yes one dollar, and if you add .002 499 times you will get to .998 which is roughly .99 cents, well guess what happens when you add .002 to .998 you get $1!! yes a dollar!! amazing isn't it, it's simple math really, so Verizon was correct it's $71.79. Ask your teacher at school he or she will tell you.

ok, maybe you missed this in school $.002 and .002cents are the samething, you are right though .002 times 5 is one penny, .002 times 350 is .70 cents, .002 times 500 is equally $1 .002 cents eventually will get to the dollar status .002 times 5 is .01, .002 times 50 is .10 .002 times 100 is .20, by 150 .30 cents, 200 is .40, 250 .50 cents, by 300 is .60 cents, by 350 is .70 cents!!. Jjust like .99 dollars is the same as .99 cents, either way it's $71.79

no $ is dollars and .002 with the c with the ling going through it is cents. but if you look at it the way we do it here it'll read as $0.002 we don't normally do the thing with the c, but yes you can read it as .002 dollars or .002 cents, here we would read it as .002 cents

well with pound i'm not sure how that works, but here in America $ .002 and .002 cents read the same way, anything to the right of the decimel point reads as cents, that's how here in America it is written $ .002 but pronounced as .002 cents

Myself and some others on YouTube have tried to explain:

They said that the rate is 0.002 cents per kb. The user used 35893kb according to the first voice. So you multiply the two: 0.002 cents * 35893 = 71.786 cents. The unit is very important. If the rate was $0.002 per unit then it would be $71.79, but since they said it's 0.002cents per kb it would make the bill 72cents.

AzKkMcFaN, how old are you? I suggest you go back to primary school and learn some maths, because you FAIL almost as badly as the people in the recording!

0.002 cents * 35893 = 71.786 cents

71.786 cents IS NOT the same as $71.786

It is like saying 71 grams is the same as 71 kilograms!

Here, It's really easy, we'll not move the decimal place anywhere, we'll leave it right where it is... 0.002 (CENTS) X 35896 (Kilobytes) = 71.792 (CENTS) the decimal place hasn't moved, so it doesn't miraculously become dollars, you need to move the DP Two places to the left to make it dollars, you understand me, since there is 100 cents in a dollar. 71.792 cents, now move the DP two too the left, which makes 0.71792 DOLLARS, Seriously man, you might aswell give up on life altogether if you cannot wrap your head around that.

Let me explain to you how this works:

We start off with 0.002 cents... this is 1/500 of 1 cent. In order to make it 1 cent, you do:

0.002 * 500 = 1 cent

Now there are 100 cents in $1 (1 dollar)... so you do the maths!

I do not understand how you can think that 0.002 dollars and 0.002 cents are the same thing, because they are so obviously not. To convert the currency from dollars to cents, you multiply by 100 and to go from cents to dollars, you divide by 100.

You try it yourself... add 0.002 cents again and again 35893 times, and let me know what number you get (it is the same thing as 0.002 * 35893 so that may be an easier calculation). Now remember that you started off with CENTS, so even after the multiplication, you are still left with CENTS... there is no way it can magically change to dollars.

0.002 CENTS x 35893 = 71.786 CENTS

^ see, it is still cents!

Seriously, if you do not believe me... ask someone else in your household!

So, are you trying to tell me that the $ symbol means cents? As far as I know, the $ symbol means dollars.

So, how can $0.002 dollars equal 0.002 cents?

I am going to give him a link to this thread once there are some comments, to show him how stupid he is being! :)

Why not name and shame this moron:

That's bloody ridiculous. How the hell can people whose job it is to bill you for usage not know the difference between $0.002 and 0.002c?

I did, but this story has no beginning, we jump in on some guy trying to explain to two people that there is a different between two thousandths of a cent and two tenths of a cent. But what Verison, why 0.002 of a cent and what are we counting?

Hahaha thats good.

Explanation for above poster

It is some bill for data usage (mobile i think) he has used x kb's of data. They charge at 0.002c per 1kb. But they cant work out that 0.002c is not 0.002$

Verizon is an American telecoms company and they are billing a guy for his internet usage. He has used 35893kb and they quoted him 0.002 cents... but are now trying to charge him $71.786 after saying that 0.002 cents is the same as $0.002!

Computer says no....

You know, if this is some error in their set up there are probably people billed for tier usage on corporate fiber lines where the same mistake was made.

mybe you should ask him about that plane on the conveyor belt? ..... seems the sort of thing he/she would crack in an instant ...

You say the Guy is right and verizon is stupid?

This thread is more about the stupidity of this guy on YouTube :p
Now you say verizon is right and the Guy is stupid?

I'm totally confused.
