6.5 Ghz Phenom II

Impressive but absolutely meaningless!!!!

An interesting point of view on an overclocking website

Fantastic to see that AMD may well take back the OC crown in this round - will be very interesting to see how this translates to users like us. Given the speed difference (percentage wise) between i7 and Phenom II, does this mean that the performance crown is back with AMD

interesting.

However the highest stable clock I've seen is 4.25ghz and that was on phase. The phenoms are less than stunning IMO.

Which isn't far off the average for Core i7, going by xtremesystems.org. The Core i7s, therefore, would be less than stunning... if it weren't for their general performance.

My point is simple.

None of us can achieve that. All that expense just to prove a point. It doesn't translate into real world achievable goals for the likes of the common man. Yes it is impressive but it probably cost them £50,000 to achieve, if not more!!

Yeah the Core i7 chips clock similarly but as you say the performance per clock is what gives it the edge

....but I would much rather have a Yorkfield. I had a Q9650 that did 4.4ghz stable awhile back at 1.4V which is easily done on air.

Can't ever see that happening on a Phenom

I think the really great thing here is AMD are starting to get their act together and come back with some well priced kit that can be made to overclock. We've had near as darn it 3 years of Intel domination and my next system will be an SLI Phenom II X4 system, just because I fancy the change.

And advertising stunts like this helped me make up my mind.

i7 has more cache. also phenom II's isn't compared to the i7 really.

also that screenshot its only gpu test , not cpu test
