You wont believe this

How do they know they are on a bus? Never seen brail at a bus stop . . .

How about they use their guide dogs? I've seen plenty of blind people use buses and on other types of public transport because for some reason they never seem to drive themselves!

I had a blind programmer working for me who had a combined Braille keyboard and screen reader, it was an amazing piece of kit. He was more productive then some of the sighted ones. :)

Also, a friend told me that under that box at traffic lights where you can press the buttom to cross the roads, theres a little thing that you twist instead of pressing the button, that seems kinda pointless to me, I mean come on, they're blind not stupid, am sure they can press a button, why do they need to twist a knob?

SkScotchegg:D

The "thing" spins round when it is save to cross, it is not instead of the button.

I once saw a blind man get on the bus on his own with his guide dog. He seemed to press the stop button fine and get off the bus ok. I guess the guy must have listened for when the bus doors opened each time and counted the stops!

Either that or the dog was in fact taking his owner out to the shops and took his owner with him so he wouldn't have to carry all of his stuff back himself!

How are they going to find it?
Surely they can't just start swinging their arms when they need to get off.
How do they even know they need to get off?
They must have someone with them or something and then there's no need for brail.

Because they're not stupid, they just can't see.

They know the rough layout of the bus, they can hear where the doors are, and can feel buttons, and as it has "stop" written on it to assist sighted people, it has "stop" in Braille on it to assist blind people.

Some buses have pre-recorded messages when they arrive at stops, most blind people will know when they are at the stop because they've either learned to count the stops, or there are distinctive noises at their particular stop, or it's just after a series of turns, etc.

It's not that hard to work out!
