for me snowboarding you just push snow about and it can be a little boring... and you know if you fall its really going to hurt. I learnt to snowboard by just renting a board and boots and basically throwing myself down red runs for a day... which worked and im now a confident snowboarder. But I would prefer to ski... way more fun you can go a lot faster and is just all round better (imo)
Try both and make your own mind up
OR learn both and then switch each time you go - simple!
Snowboarding for definite!
You can just do a lot more fun things trickwise. Skiers can do the park but on the flats not a lot you can do apart from ride the piste. I love being able to tear up a piste whilst dropping in 180 ollies, butters, manuals and nose rolls.
Also don't believe the pretense that snowboarding is slow, on my 164 board especially when it has been waxed I easily out run 90% piste users.
Skiing. You'll still look cool doing it when you are 60![]()

I've done both, and I much prefer skiing, although ironically my knees are so buggered now I could only board![]()
You have no knees ?![]()
Snowboarding IS slow, you wouldn't keep up with me, that's for sure.
I would hardly call it slow, I believe the record is around 126mph which maybe slower than the fastest skier but is still damn fast! You can get plenty of speed if you want to.
126mph sounds a little scary to me, it screams broken legs and mangled arms![]()
It's about the same speed you would be going if you fell from a plane, so slightly more than broken![]()
