I put a £25 deposit down on a holiday last Saturday but a friendship has fallen through, the leader that arranged the holiday now tells me I don't have a say whether I cancel my placement in this holiday(he claims he has to cancel for me), but surely I must be able to pull out without going through him? It's arranged for next year, what am I going to do? The holiday was booked at a local Thomas Cook travel agents. What further charges will incur?

I've not signed any paperwork or anything but my name is on the system, I really do need to cancel.

Thanks

Well if he arranged the holiday he'll have to fork out the costs surely?

But is it as simple for me to go to the travel agent and withdraw myself from the holiday?

I'm sure his fee's will go up with one less person? Not that I care...

Surely the deposit is there, if you cancel the holiday, it will cover any charges etc?

I dont understand

The leader and his brother will still be going, It's just I'm not willing to now.

I dont mind about losing £25 but do I have to say I don't want to go to the Travel Agent?

you'll loose your deposit but you have every right to cancel it. Just go into the travel agents and remove your name from the holiday and theres nothing he can do about it.

Sound advice, I'll sort it asap. I wont need the reference number will I?

Cheers so far.

I am sure that the travel agent will quote the Data Protection Act and refuse to discuss it with you since you did not book the holiday yourself.

Just forget about it....

Well I suppose it does help that I haven't signed any dotted lines :)

The DPA does interest me at times...

You can't cancel only he can
Now here's the good bit, £25 will be a low deposit with a balance of deposit to come ( prob about £75 ) , that balance is already part of a legal contract but if only he signed then the contract is between him and the tour company and will have to be paid even if the name is removed ( reason I know this stuff is my sister is manager of a Thomas Cook travel agency )

Aaah the next payment is £45 next month, so I can't cancel myself and theres no point me even trying then. And I don't have to pay this?

Thanks

Just rang my sister and deposit balance is £50 and yes the lead name is liable for everything to do with booking

If the booking is for more than 10 then names aren't put on till 12 weeks before departure, lead name will be on and others will be TBA
