Tony Adams Sacked

Had to be done. I'm all for giving managers time but he's not manager material and would've taken them down.

I expect their new manager will be getting a phone call straight after MOTD2.

Definitely needs to spend a lot more time learning the ropes as a coach/assistant before he tries this again. He's really not looking up to a managers job at the moment. Shame, will of course always be a legend as a player to me.

Who are they going to get in that will keep them up?

Curbishley's already been linked and is doing well at dodging the questions he's being asked on MOTD2.

BTW for those that didn't already know, Adams had already failed as a manger at Wycombe.

Was crackers of Pompey giving him the job in the first place, his sole experience of management was getting Wycombe relegated.

They need a proper experienced manager because they are in serious trouble both football and financial wise so taking a gamble with a totally inexperienced manager was asking for disaster.

Something has to be said about his luck though. Watching highlights of yesterday's game, it seemed to defensive errors than really cost them, something he couldn't have done anything about. This has been happening to pompey since he took over. Mind you selling Defoe didnt help either.

Selling 2 of his best players couldn't have helped his chances, and to then have some bad luck against him, outplayed Villa with 70% possesion and to concede a last minute winner at the weekend.

It makes me wonder what board's think. What has changed in the last week to sack him? Did they expect to beat 'Pool?

Why is it great players never seem to make good Managers?

Exactly - wasnt helped by the board selling two of his best players and not giving him a pot to **** in

Managers arent given enough time these days - look how long it took Fergie to turn Utd around, and routinely managers arent given 1/4 of that time these days, its beyond a joke

Cruyff was a top manager. I think its more to do with the fact that being a good (or bad) player has nothing to do with being a good (or bad) manager and because there are less good players there seem to be very few good managers who were good players.

If you're a chairman though its canny hard to stick with Adams when he could take the club down which will wreck it financially. Ferguson is a one off case, so its a little unfair to compare.

I reckon Avram Grant will be the new Pompey managers with new owners coming in pretty soon after.

Pompy can't afford a decent new manager. And with the transfer window closed a new manager won't be able to do much with those players anyway.

Don't see the point in sacking him. Give the poor bloke a chance. I want to see more interviews with him, it's pure comedy.
