Hi all,

My 360 died on me today, I'm getting no display from either my usual VGA cable or the standard component.

When I turn it on I still get sound and all the menus/games seem to work yet nothing on screen. I've also attempted the resolution reset (holding down Y and RT until the console reboots) but still no joy.

I've logged a call with MS and I just need to prove it's in warranty before they proceed (photo of receipt which is annoying) but does anyone have any ideas on what it could be or fixes before I post it off?

Also, when sending away to MS any idea how long it takes and if it takes time do they extend your original warranty or Live subscription by the time it was away for repair?

Thanks. :)

GPU failure. Same cause as the RRoD, just with the GPU instead of the CPU.

If it's inside the warranty, just let MS fix it.
If not, easy fix yourself.

If you do send it to Microsoft, you get 1 month of Live when you receive your console back.

I remember that when the whole RROD thing first broke the retailers did swap them out but soon after they stopped that and now they just tell you to contact MS. :(
Still, if you have any DLC or other purchased content then fingers crossed it won't to be much hassle getting it transfered to the new machine.

If I understand correctly that's all linked to your gamertag so once you get your new xbox (and drive is that's the case) it will all download again, can someone confirm?

Yeah it is all linked to your gamertag.

But yeah my xbox has the exact same thing about a year ago, and i still haven't got it fixed, it was out of warranty and they wanted £60 , £60 that i hadn't got :D

I've been borrowing a friends spare xbox ever since

Cool, I'm still running an early box that hasn't dies yet, so I'm gathering as much info as I can ready for the inevitable! ;)
Cheers.

Easy to fix yourself. Or drop me an email if you don't fancy doing it ;)

If your xbox is less than a year old then take it back to where you bought it from.
I did, it was the high street catalogue shop, but they will only repair not replace and the policy for Xbox is that it has to go through MS. I complained a bit at the hassle of all this and they offered to do it for me, but after only a short conversation I thought it would probably take even longer with them dealing with it.

Aaaah they are a pain in the harris for returning xbox's. however, legally, they should deal with any faulty consoles under a year old.

Well I've had a right result, after getting nowhere with MS all week (not even to the point of proving my xbox is still in warranty) I returned to said shop and explained how I was having no joy. They also attempted to ring MS and after 2 minutes on the phone to their useless customers support realised we were all wasting time and agreed to replace it.

But then it gets better, they have none in stock so give me full refund for the price I paid (£180), I then into the games shop pick up one for £169 with a free copy of Lips (seems to get a good second hand price).

So I've ended up with a brand new console which is quieter, has a bigger drive (60gb opposed the original 20gb), a whole years new warranty, another game, and still an extra tenner left in my pocket. :)

Oh and to top it off MS finally called me back literally 20 mins after I got the new one so I could have missed out on all this if they were any quicker. :p

Thats great !

I tryed the towl trick on my broken xbox a few months ago and the back plastic just popped out of place and has molded to a different shape because it got so hot :D
