A bit of a long shot this but has anyone ever been camping in or around the Mourne Mountains?

Basically i'm trying to find a campsite that will let a smallish group (about 10 max) of 19-23 year olds camp for a weekend, the select few campsites google brings up have a strict "we don't want your kind around here, families only" attitide.

Any suggestions or people speaking from experience would be great!

A few mates and myself took a tent up the Bloody Bridge trail just outside Newcastle on the road to Kilkeel last summer. The trail is an awesome walk and the river has loads of small pools which are deep enough to dive in. We had powerful craic at them :D

If you follow the trail about halfway up there is a campsite and there wasn't any trouble with us having a few drinks outside the tent although we were asked to turn the music off around 11pm.

ive done a lot of camping around there but tend to avoid the campsites, know a few good places near tolymore campsite, though are a bit challenging to get to.

Thats brilliant mate just what im after, could only find info about a hostel around the Bloody Bridge trail no campsites. Any idea what it was called? Did you have to phone up and book or just show up?

Yeah we were originally planning to just dander into the middle of the mountains and find a reasonably sheltered area to set up, however a couple of the girls who are going demand the use of bathrooms!

EDIT - Just found this place http://www.bloodybridge.com/html/campsites.html is that the one you were at Scuzi?

No idea what it was called. We just walked up the trail, spotted a field with about 6 or 7 tents in it and pitched up next to them. Nobody asked us for money or anything so I assume it was free. My mate planned the whole thing so I'll have to ask him what the score is with that.

The trail is only about a mile outside Newcastle so the nearest hostle will probably be in town. Just across the road from the entrance to the trail is a car park with a set of bogs and a shower if that's what you need.

I haven't been up the Bloody Bridge trail in ages so i'll have to pop down in the next few weeks and jog my memory, hopefully ill get to check out that campsite and find out whats the deal.

Book as couples/Pairs if you can't get on as a group.

This is what about 10 of us used to do.

We did that at Meelmore Lodge last year and they were not happy bunnies!
