Why do people spell bought as brought?

Cause typing is weird. unlike writing you don;t have to think about the letters you're writing and usually people will type the one they use the most as it's what their hands do more often.

Thats got nothing to do with it. If you don't know how to spell it doesn't matter if you're typing or writing.

how often do yo actually look for the the letters you type?

half the time i find my self writing a slightly different word because it;s what my fingers are used to doing :(

And for some god damn reason I can never hit the ' key only the ; :(

I hate keyboards :(

Except most people will notice the difference when they read it.

I can tell the difference between "you're" and "your" still type it wrong sometimes. same with lots of words that start the same/ are very similar.

Although I never know which were/where to use :(

I see it on loads of forums, always thought it was done on purpose for whatever reason.

Another one is the usage of 'a lot', where did that come from?

Just sparked this question after reading many many posts spelling it like this, and just wondered why?

Maybe its the english language, i was reading about common spelling mistakes and the spoken spelling, it went as far to suggest that at the time didnt understand spelling and phonetics, thus were really thick. people who spell it according to how they say it are more intelligent.

I was talking to someone the other night and they SAID brought instead of bought. Get that.

Its done on purpose to wind people up

I was out in town last week and was amazed to hear a girl say LOL out loud. I do it sometimes as a wind up around mates, but come on :p

I don't think people do it on purpose, the only situation where that happens is when some people put "sauce" instead of source, which became a small fad on here for a bit.
But it's not so great because there are people that get source/sauce mixed up

It would be easier if they made the past tense of bring work the same as that of sing/ring, which weirdly is acceptable in the US.
