Hi there,

I am trying to perform a clean install of Vista on a new HDD I just got from OcUK. But Vista gets to the stage where it says "Completing installation" and shortly after all disk activity seems to stop and no progress is made. Can anyone help?

I don't think I should have any hardware issues as I'm on the same laptop at the moment just with the previous HDD back in and it works fine. The Vista disk has no scratches on it either that I can see.

Laptop is a Dell Vostro 1700.

How long has it hung for m8?

This happened to me on a build for a friend.

I re-formatted and tried again, but it also hung... so I ended up leaving it. Kicked back in after 20-30 minutes!

Hence I have nothing useful to say except leave it and come back in a bit ;)

If not, try doing a normal (rather than quick) format?

Tried it a couple of times now, it will sit at the same screen for a couple of hours with no progress, no hard drive or cd noise either.

Do you think I will require some kind of SATA driver or something to install first?

I didn't format the disk at all, will try the slow format and give that a go now see if it makes a difference?

Can you set the hdd mode to ide in the bios? that may allow installation then swap it after and install the driver.

Yeah i'd give that a shot.

The disk would not show if some kind of SATA driver wasn't present.
