Why do people spell bought as brought?

Just sparked this question after reading many many posts spelling it like this, and just wondered why?

I'm not sure which shows a greater lack of comprehension... using brought instead of bought, or actually asking why people confuse the two. :p

People who put "(sp?)" after a word annoy me. You could spend just as long copying and pasting it into Google and enlightening yourself instead of typing "sp" and informing everyone else that you know you got it wrong but can't be bothered to correct it.

Or it could be the fact they're making sure they used the correct word.

Like the title of this thread basically.

I think I no doubt used the wrong 'they're' as well :p

As above, because people make mistakes/dont know the difference. The only thing worse than people putting in these spelling errors is the people constantly complaining :p.

If people don't complain, the problem is ignored and it gets worse. Or should I say worserer????:p

And forums are limited purely to the characters on the screen to convey our thoughts, we have no body language/expression to help us along, smilies withstanding. ;)

Thus, being as clear and concise as possible is more important than some people think... oh, and also the obvious 'avoiding the assault of the pedant-police' angle comes into play. :p

Aye being able to convey satire over the internet is probably the hardest thing to do without thinking about it and without the use of smileys.

Really glad some bozo decided we needed smileys.

Because people can't be bothered to put any effort into spelling things correctly.

That's fine with me; if they can't be bothered to write something properly then I can't be bothered to read it.

Adding an "e" onto "lens" is another classic.

"I need a new lense for my DSLR, what to buy?"
Maybe you should start with a dictionary.

Although the variant spelling “lense” is listed in some dictionaries, the standard spelling for those little disks that focus light is “lens.”

Wait now, have you considered that the education system could have failed them, how many of you use spell checkers?

I have a mate that always puts "ea" instead off "ee"

Just today we were talking about food, he said I could get a meal for £7 and get a free bear,

A free bear would be cool
