Got this a week or so back, it seems like they've definitely gone for a throwback towards NFS:U2. Up to about 77% career progress now and enjoying it for the most part, although it is pretty 'average'. The storyline is thoroughly uninspiring so far (not that the NFS games were ever really known for their story, but it's certainly not up to the standard of say, Most Wanted).
One thing I've noticed though, the GPS system is really annoying, why did they remove the guidance arrows from U2? Sometimes you're supposed to take a freeway exit, but because the offslip is practically parallel to the main road, it's not always obvious from the yellow line on the little map that you're supposed to take it - until you've gone bombing past it at 200mph and have to pull a sudden handbrake U-turn of course!
There's one mission I found really tough, where you have to drive a clapped out Audi to pick something up and then bring it back. It was that bad that even if you had no serious collisions on the way there, time would still run out. Towards the end your car just seemed to lack any kind of midrange acceleration, you'd be doing 80mph with it floored and the speedo would just slowly creep up towards 100mph, whereas at the start you could hit a ton in no time. Very strange. In the end the only way I could beat that mission was to do a whole load of 'normal' races to beef up my driver skills via a few dominations and a Wheelman level up before re-attempting it.
