Laptop upgrade? Is it worth trading up at this stage

Hi,

I've got a Sony Vaio FZ11s - T7100, 8400M GT NO blueray.

I've had some small issues with it (not playing Divx properly and HDMI not great) , mainly i think it falls a bit short with Vista.

So plan is to sell it and buy another Vaio (or a completely different laptop) with the same sort of features.

What laptop meets the same criteria, and is it worth it?

How much RAM has it got? Could it just be worth sticking xp on it instead?

This. Stick xp on instead unless you use a lot of programs that only work with vista. (Not many out there that don't still run fine and in some cases better on xp)

Doing so will be a royal pain - and there seem to be issues with sound cards, function buttons, media buttons and battery life on downgrading to XP.

So not sure if it will be an absolute pain doing so.

Bung Windows 7 on it. Worth a try... at the least it should be better than Vista!

Those drivers should be available from the manufacturers website. Battery Life should be longer actually, as xp doesn't stress the graphics chipset so much, but it is up to you at the end of the day. Downgrading to xp may well be worth it as it will save you money.
