Following on from yesterdays 350z post, I found a Honda 2007 S2000 GT for £15,995 with 3600 miles on the clock, this car appeals to me more as it's a drop top and looks more like a classic sports car, I realize the car has not changed a lot in the 10 years it has been out but I'd rather have a nearly new car for peace of mind, I feel that if it's only done 3600 miles in nearly 2 years then it must have been looked after.

According to parkers the car has already depreciated £12,000 so there's only another few thousand to drop in it's third year, going to try and go for a test drive in it on Saturday if nobody has snapped it up!

Oppinions/thoughts?

The 911 hasn't changed much in 40 years either but then when you get something right you can spend less time worrying about asthetics and focus on refinement of how it goes. I suggest the S2000 falls into that camp.

Or it has spent it’s life doing a secession of short journeys which isn’t really much good as it never allows the engine to get up to it’s optimal temperature I’ll never get my head round people that think low mileage = it must be good. Buy a car on its condition and history, not its mileage or lack of in this case.

Quite different cars and I do like the s2k, I’d say it’s more focused compared the 350z. The 350 is more of a cruiser GT car while the 2sk is more of a classic sports car.

Its a Honda, peace of mind comes as standard. Buy a 2004 one and spend £6k on an amazing holiday driving it through Europe.

I really can't see the point in buying a car mid-top end of its used market unless your genuinely not bothered about saving £X,000.

If money isn't an issue then go for it. If money wasn't an issue I would have bought a year old Z4. But I know for sure that it would bug me seeing someone driving around in one who only paid £10k.

Just think what £5-6k would be able to get you, aswell as a Honda S2000. :)

You can pick up brand new EU imports (60k mile warranty rather than 90k miles) for £19k now.

Awesome cars

Buy it :) They are amazingly fun cars to drive, with the hardtop its practical also for the winter.

Don't expect to fit anything in the boot though, i can't even get a suitcase in mine :P

They have recently droped a lot in price, used to hold their value really well once they got to around 4 years old, but in the last 6 months alone the value of an 04 has dropped from 13000 to 10000!

Only bad thing about the car is the insurance is a killer, watch out for seized bushes (if you are buying from a garage get them to copper grease all of them and do a geometry before you buy it), they are expensive to repair, also second gear tends to be a bit rough/notchy untill warm! Although with it being a 2007 im sure you can get them to sort that under warrenty.

After owning mine for 6 months i can safely say I wouldnt swap it for any other car (in my price range i mean), its my daily driver and it still brings a smile to my face when i accelerate hard.

Won't it command higher insurance though Simon? (even though it still probably works out cheaper than buying a new uk car and getting cheaper insurance)

As far as I understand they are a UK car still, just not recognised as that by Honda Uk, hence the limited warranty. Bob Gerrad is the agent who is UK based.

And yes they are in RHD. The dash has a button to switch between miles and Kilometres so that's not an issue

This is the FAQ on S2000s. All you need to know and more

from that FAQ:

EU Imports

RHD EU/Parallel imports are identical to UK cars with the following exceptions:

No Alarm fitted (04 model now comes with a factory fitted alarm)
No Locking Wheel Nuts
3yr 60000 mile warranty instead of 3yr/90000

You should register your EU import at your local Honda dealer, who can provide you with an English warranty/Service book and inform you of any recalls.

Due to the strength of the pound over the last few years there are a lot of EU imports around. They command a slightly lower price than UK cars. Parallel importing has become less common since the start of 2003 because of the weakening pound.

So they're not LHD and in kilometres?

You can switch the digital display between KMPH and MPH.

*edit sorry saw Simon had already answered it :P

I agree with what fox has said though, you can get a stunning 05ish example for 11-13k, Ive even seen an 06 sell for 12k on the S2ki forums in the past few months!

Save the rest and spend it on insurance and/or a supercharger :P

Nothing apart from them not being official UK cars

My mum did this when she bought her Renault Megane. Got a bargain (for a new car), registered it with Renault (who beforehand had told her that it wouldnt have a warranty..because they couldn't match the price). The cars now 3 years old. She got it from motorpoint and saved £2000 ish by not nuying it from Renault IIRC.
